My husband has declined progressively since March when first cystoscopy alerted him to bladder cancer. He has a large diverticulum which is where it’s sited which made obtaining biopsy difficult. He has lost a significant amount of weight, but also has very raised white blood cells and other raised inflammatory markers. He is home waiting for treatment plan for High grade aggressive Urotherial cell cancer and the surgeon and GP have said that the necrotic tissue is the cause of this and once he has surgery it will settle. Does anyone else have experience of this? It is scary watching him decline, I am a Nurse with a great deal of experience but it is so hard when it’s your own! Biopsy says pT1b.
Hello and welcome to the community, although sorry to hear your husband is not so well. I am sure you will know that a diverticulum is a weakness in the bladder wall. Bit unsure of what you mean by waiting for surgery. Having a biopsy and staging result would suggest he has had surgery. Necrotic (dead) tissue is sometimes left behind after surgery and having it myself, it does not usually cause problems. It is usually removed with a follow up op. I lost a lot of weight prior to my first op, but picked up soon after. If your husband has been given a dedicated CNS (Cancer Nurse Specialist) he should give them a ring with concerns. Best wishes.
