hi everyone, I am actually from the womb cancer site and am one year post op etc, the reason I have come over here is to ask if any of you could offer any insight or advice, my friend was diagnosed a couple of days ago with aggressive bladder cancer that has spread to her lungs, a few tiny nodules on her lungs I think, I was just wondering what she is up against as I need to know but I don’t want to ask her to much or worry her into asking either, also I wonder what I can do to help, I know I should know the answer to the last question Cos  I have had the womb cancer, but I just don’t know what to do, any advice would be so welcome, thank you xx

I was diagnosed with bladder cancer. It spread to lymph nodes, liver and lungs. I have just finished 8 cycles of chemotherapy. The main thing is try to be positive. If your friend has any worries or questions she shouldn't hesitate to contact her dedicated nurse. There are also lots of people on this site to answer questions from a patient's point of view. Often the canccr is curable. Mine is not but they can keep it at bay. There can be side effects but not everyone gets them. I have had severe fatigue but look on it as a small price to pay to get treatment. There will probably be  a CT scan after 3 cycles. My tumours had shrunk.  I will will have  another scan in about three weeks. Tell your friend to go for walks even if they are only short. Tell her to get on with life as usual. Keep up any hobbies or outings. Family and friends are always willing to help with lifts etc.

  • Hi Lara lou and a welcome to the group from me, although sorry to hear about your friend. Good advice from Richard above. When I was first diagnosed, I had a spot on my lung which disappeared following chemo. The chemo halted the growth in my bladder and I went on to further treatment. If your friend has chemo, the most common side effect as you probably know is fatigue. This is where friends can help out with everyday chores and lifts to hospital etc. Keep us posted. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Thank you so much Richard for your reply, everything you say makes total sense, she was told it’s not curable but is treatable, and will start chemo soon, thank you for sharing your story and I’m so glad that the chemo shrunk the tumours and held things at bay, I don’t think I will see if I can get her to join this forum, the only thing is she does not do all the internet stuff so it may not be for her, but I will definitely help her with any advice etc that I see on here, thank you again xx
