Hi, as my wife got a good report from the oncologist, her treatment finished last September, and the tumour and infected nodules are no more I thought I would book a week in Italy in June, flying from Edinburgh to Italy, which I have.

I have just phoned Staysure Insurance , answered all questions re my wifes recovery, she will still be monitored, another scan in 3 months, and shocked to be given from a basic quote of over £300 to a more complete cover of over £600.

I expected to pay more but not that much

Is this what I should expect in price ranges or can someone give me a Travel Insurance company they have used that maybe bring the price down a bit.

Thank you

  • Hi and welcome to the travel insurance group

Unfortunately, as you have found, it can be more difficult to find reasonably priced travel insurance when you have had a cancer diagnosis. I don't know whether you've had a chance to look through the member's stories thread yet as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are. If not, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there.

It is best to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as sometimes they can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.

Make sure you have all the information to hand about your wife's diagnosis and treatment before contacting the insurers. This is a list of common questions that insurers might ask when you're applying for insurance. Some insurers might ask for a letter from her doctor to prove that they have given her permission to travel.

I do hope that you can get some reasonably priced travel insurance and that you have a fantastic holiday in Italy!

Happy to report that I contacted Holidaysafe , Martin Lewis recommended them, and I have since used them for the last two years since turning 70. And I see someone else on here recommended them.

The only reason I did not phone them first because the lines were so busy yesterday I gave up. Anyway first thing this morning I was on the phone, and they went through basicallylthe same type of questions about my wife and her lung cancer as Staysure,

The huge difference was the price £51.15 ( including a reduction as a returning customer). Just shows you need to shop around but for me the answer was always staring me in the face............

    Holidaysafe..... delighted.

  • That's great news !

Thanks for taking the time to come back and let us know.

I hope you both have a fantastic holiday

No problem, I hope I have helped a few people on here.

    Good Luck.

  • Hi concernedhubby, Thanks for posting this! I have been with Staysure for a few years now (I'm passed my sell your date!) as they were the only ones to offer annual travel insurance for the reasonable price of £85  when I was being quoted figures like £9,000 (yes, there IS meant to be 3 zeros) for 3 weeks in Spain! That was after being turned down by more than 8 other companies.

I will be 70 this year, so will give Holidaysafe a ring once my current insurance runs out!

I do hope your wife is doing well!

    Love Annette x
