I'm in remission from AML at the min, I'm on a course of Sorafenib this being used as a preventative medication do I have to declare it as a cancer medication?

Thanks for any advice.

  • Hi

That's great to hear you're currently in remission.

I've done a search in the group to see if anyone has previously mentioned Sorafenib but drawn a blank. Your best bet would be to do a quote over the phone so you can ask the agent how this drug is classed from the point of view of a travel insurance quote.

  • Hello Paul227,

It's great that you're in remission and not surprising that you're looking to get away for what will liklely be a very welcome holiday.

As far as your question is concerned, the simple answer is that you must declare all medical conditions and answer all questions on the insurance proposal accurately and honestly. All conditions, treatments etc. must be disclosed as requested and you shouldn't decide yourself what is relevant or not and what a prescribed drug is being used for.

I suggest you either try an online quote initially or, if you've already tried this and still not sure, then 'phone as Anne (latchbrook) suggests, to go through it with them making sure you're providing them with the exact information they require.

In my case I found albert & eddie could provide the best quote (although insurers do vary person to person). You'll see other examples if you look through the travel insurance forum.

It's essential to bear in mind that any incorrect or missing information given will likely invalidate cover rendering the insurance worthless.

I do hope you can find cover so you get away.

    • I've spoken with our insurers (we get it free with our bank account) both my wife have had cancer when I declared this to our insurers declined to cover either of us for any illnesses caused by our cancer. I've  done a few quotes from other companies and the price range from £200  to nearly £600.
