I am not good this week.  I went for my picc line on Thurs they had had a problem--- come back early tomorrow.   Next day all ready for it to be done --had I had my blood thinners yes I have them in a morning so can't be done, no one told me.

So now its another week before treatment. Feeling rough all aches and pains wondering if new treatment will make me worse. Is it really worth the struggle.  I am meeting my Palliative nurse the day before so will discuss it with her, I was all for new chance of a little extra time but it gets harder to go on. I know you all have troubles why is it so hard for us all.

  • Hi Annette,

Hopefully you will receive a notification of this post.  I did just have a look at your profile and you are certainly a member of the group.  My memberships all transferred automatically with the upgrade to the site.  I actually found it quite difficult to turn off my notifications but before I did I seemed to be getting a notification if I was tagged, mentioned or replied to, one for each!

I'm still struggling and frustrated with certain aspects, I used to go into a discussion by clicking on view latest post and as it said on the tin I went to the most recent post.  Under the upgraded site when I try this nothing happens and I have to go in to the opening post of the discussion, scroll to the bottom of the page and then click to go to the last page of the thread and then scroll down to the latest post.  It's ok but i did like the shortcut previously.  When I click on the home page to see if there are any new posts the times of the latest posts in my groups is totally incorrect.  I checked yesterday and it said there had ben no activity for 14 hours but when I checked the group there had been a post 21 minutes before.  I suppose it is in part waiting for the gremlins to be pushed out of the system, waiting for the admin to make a few changes (like removing the vote down button) and getting used to the new system.  I'm sure I will get there in the end.

I hope that your weather is decent up where you are this week end.  We had a very hot Friday and had thunder but no rain, a pleasant day yesterday and today is similar so it has been quite nice here.

    All the best,

    Gragon xx

Ah, , probably not so much home. I may not make it home again, I’m told. It’s a blow and frankly hard to believe or accept

  • Hi Gragon, No I didn't get notification you had posted this! I did get it for Daloni's post that said " I share your pain Gragon" and thought something had happened to you! Phew!! It's mad the posts start from the oldest to the newest, it's upside down! Hopefully this can be changed in the near future! I just got a PM from someone here and when I clicked on it, the first post was from someone who died a while ago, mint was quite upsetting!

We are having a lovely time in Ayr on the West Coast of Scotland, the sun was out yesterday (Sat) and out and in today which was fine! Our son, grandson, our daughter, husband & 2 girls ALL came down for the day today as we are only about an hour from home! Everyone was in for a paddle and there's a huge play park with several sections for different age groups, so although it was busy, people just seemed to disappear! The beach is about 4 miles long with soft silver sand and hard sand near the water, so again no one is near you. It wasn't busy anyway, unlike the park!

Yesterday when we arrived the first thing I wanted to do was go for a paddle but when we got there, (5 mins from hotel) I was in my electric buggy, the tide was well out and it was too far to walk. I had said that in a post, do you know someone here sent me a message with the Tide Times for Ayr, how fantastic! Which is why we were all in for a paddle today, then we went for ice cream! Later we had various suppers from an excellent chip shop and the family left about 8pm just as the sun was going down! I'm shattered now but in a good way, it was well worth it! Now I hope this sends, I sent a reply to Tv man & Norberry a while ago and it took 5 tries! Fingers crossed! Love Annette X

  • Hi @anndanv / Annette,

It sounds like a great couple of days so far in Ayr.  I mentioned a while ago about going to the Glens of Antrim when I was 15 with my parents.  We went from Stranraer as we were having a two week holiday in the south of Scotland.  I can't remember going to Ayr as we were mainly around Kirkcudbright, Gatehouse of Fleet and Newton Stewart.  I remember visiting Culzean Castle and being very impressed by the large fish trap.

About 12 years ago we went to the North of Ayr and stayed at a holiday park at Saltcoats outside Ardrossan.  The park was lovely, the area about slightly less so as Ardrossan had obviously struggled economically.  The main street seemed to be a mixture of closed shops, budget stores and charity shops.  It was however a good base and we thoroughly enjoyed it.  We even went onto Glasgow for the day on the train.

Living near York it is quite easy to get to Edinburgh so we have been there several times both by rail and car.   hope to continue a bit further up Scotland in the future but it does depend on whether our son will still want to travel with us as he is 16 next year.  He is at the age where he will not want to spend a lot of time with the "old folks" which I can appreciate, the holiday to Scotland was the last family holiday I went on with my parents.

It's good to hear that you are having such a good time.

    All the best,

    Gragon x

  • Hi Gragon, Yes Saltcoats, Stevenson and Ardrossan were always a bit run down in comparison with other places like Ayr! I think it maybe because Ayr is Robert Burns country and you can visit his cottage and there is even a visitors' centre which has a lovely restaurant too. The beach in Ayr is also much superior and has sand dooms at one end and a massive children's play park at th other.

I like Ayr and we have loved every minute we have been here! I will attempt to insert a photo but no joy and now the reply won't send! I don't know what I can do if I press reply and it doesn't do anything!!

    Take Care love Annette xx

  • Hi Gragon me again, Sorry for the delay in replying but I wrote the above message early morning but it just wouldn't post! I kept pressing Reply and it looked as if it was going to post, then it took me back to the message I had written but it was still in the "Reply" box. At least it didn't disappear but I had copied it just in case.

I take it that after tapping Reply, under your message, you write the message then tap the Reply button on the bottom right of the box? Or is that too logical??? Love Annette

  • Hi Annette,

Yes that's what I do to reply.  The site doesn't seem to be consistent though.  Normally I have to open the thread and scroll to the bottom of the page where I click on what looks like the old fast forward button on a video recorder and it takes me to the last page.

This time I had to scroll down every page and click the single arrow (like the play button) to get to the next page and repeat.

I hope it gets sorted soon as I am getting tired to trying to resolve different issues all the time and I think that I am doing better than most here.

    All the best,

    Gragon xx

  • I am with you on that one Gragon, i have done so many messages to moderators, more than trying to write to people on the community. Its been quiet a few hard day;s trying yo sort things out, and as yet nothing seems to have changed. If it carry/s on a lot of people will just give up,

Then let’s support each other. I can’t do other than muddle through right now. It’s lovely reading the memories of old style northern holidays.

As a child, I only ever had holidays at friends’ homes. My godmother, Daloni, was married to the fish doctor (biologist) down at Plymouth Hoe - then and I think now home to the Marine Biological Association. My dad worked at the MBA in the late 1950s. Our families grew close and after moving to London in the early 60s we would still come to Devon to holiday. We would alternate beach and moor days. There was always a day at the shops getting school supplies and going to the movies. Always a 007 movie as I recall.
