Five years and counting. And Thank You All.

Hi i don't come here often these days, but here was my lifeline and my safespace just over five years ago and for quite a while after I was diagnosed with terminal cancer, with perhaps a year to live if I had a good response to palliative chemotherapy. Well the Palliative chemotherapy did far better than advertised and since I finished my six courses of chemotherapy I have been on surveillance CT scans, now down to every 6 months! I've just had my latest scan, results due at the end of January 2026. I'm not expecting any different news, so this post is a thank you to the Macmillan team that provide this space and to all the incurables that have supported me over the last few years. And in memory of those who are no longer with us. Thank you All.

  • Hi what a lovely thoughtful message you have sent to all of us on here we support every one and I for one couldn't of got this far without this place to go to I am so pleased that you are doing well xx

  • Hi Sarah, thanks very much for your thoughts. However, support is what we, and you, have given over the years.

Good luck for your results at the end of the month.

  • Hi Sarah. I haven’t been in the forum for a few days, and this was a lovely post to come back too! It gives so much hope to others to read such positive posts. Good luck with the results at the end of the month, and long may your good news continue!! X

  • What a lovely update Gives hope to those more recently diagnosed.

  • Hi Salis. I just read your message after finishing another six doses of Chemotherapy. I was initially diagnosed with esophageal cancer in May 2022. Since that time I've had radiotherapy, initial dosage of Chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

The cancer was eventually deemed incurable and I'm now in palliative treatment. It has also metastasised into my lung. The latest chemotherapy is an attempt to keep things as stable as possible and give me more time. Treatment has now stopped for the moment.

I was heartened by reading your comments as I've been feeling a bit hopeless for a bit. I will soon be entering surveillance CT scans with further chemotherapy and option or maybe not. Who knows.

I'm glad you could provide me with a bit of light on a rather dark road.

I hope the results of your next CT scans are favourable

I have my own in a couple of weeks. Take care.

  • Hi Neil,  yes incurable is not something I ever thought I would hear either.  I was diagnosed just over a year ago with incurable breast cancer, having it first in 2013.  I am so glad that you found this forum because it really helps to chat to people in same boat.  I find that sometimes even just writing it down helps.  I hope your scan is favourable to you too.  I am waiting for another MRI on spine and nuclear body bone scan again.  Chat is a bit quiet at the moment.  Anyway welcome to the forum.
