Hi,

I've come.on here looking for some support as I'm finding it tough going at the min. I live with my sister who has secondary breast cancer.  She was recently admitted with fluid on her lung which was drained. This week the fluid has built up again.  Her oncologist wants to start new treatment tues as the treatment she was on wasn't successful. The secondary tumors on her lung have grown since her last scan. Her oncologist did a chest xray and  said there was fluid build up again but to try and last as hospital is the last place she wants to be right now.  Last time they drained the fluid she was in hospital for just over a week. We spoke to Macmillan nurse who said they might ba able to drain as a day case. Just need some supprts as found today tough going xx

It sounds like a real dilemma, your sister needs hospital treatment, but they  need to keep her away from the risk of coronavirus infection if she has issues with her lung.  Hopefully they can treat it as a day case as the Macmillan nurse suggested.

It's the age-old problem, who cares for the carers?  Don't beat yourself up for feeling afraid,  it is entirely natural in this situation.   The trick is to acknowledge it without letting it dominate your thoughts and stop you thinking or taking action, which isn't easy.  I'm sure you're doing all you can for her in spite of the fear and worry that it's not enough.  That's great courage and compassion, and it *is* enough.

Wishing you both all the best for the future, wherever your road takes you.  Stay safe and well.
