My hubby has really swollen legs and even though he keeps them elevated on a recliner chair as soon as he puts them down to get up etc they are up like puddings in no time! Dr gave a 1 week furosemide water tablet course which doesn't appear to be doing anything. His hb count was 78 on Wednesday - after receiving 4 units of blood last Thurs/Fri - I am wondering if that is low again too.
Has anyone experienced this condition?
Bill had swollen feet after Radiotheraphy. Dont know if your husband has had this recently very often treatments can cause these side effects .But it might be worth ringing out of hours for advice if you are worried. Hope you will be alright its a worry in this pandemic so many of us were struggling before and are having to dig even deeper in our reserves to get through each day .Good luck take care lots of hugs and stay safe x

There are 2 things they dont tell you about oedema in the legs. I am/was a competitive hill runner who also has a rare chronic kidney disease which causes leg oedema, luckily for me quite mild at the moment.
Every morning my calves are skinny and muscly, but by every evening they are smooth and plump. Whatever I seem to do, and I am very active.
1. The drainage of the oedema is via the Lymphatic System, which is often mentioned, but the Lymphatic system itself drains into a Vein right up near your neck. That means that you actually have to have your feet above your head for Gravity to help.
2. Exercise pumps the Lymphatic system, but not very strongly, so you have to do lots to help get the swelling out of your legs. Inactivity _will_ make it worse.
Additionally, I found Furosemide made me feel fatigued for 4 hours after every tablet, and hence less interested in doing anything.
Thank you for your interesting reply phil_h.
I thought water tablets made you wee more!!! He has been particularly tired after the tablet. I doubt he'll ever get his foot and a half (half foot amputation was primary site) over his head again!!! Also he is so weak atm exercise means using a walker to get some fresh air at the patio door. As far as we know his kidneys are not affected in any way, he has mets all over his body and we know he's stage 4 of the cancer journey.
