Hey,
Has anyone had experience with insomnia? Dad had 2 hours sleep the other night then up for 26hours , morphine and anti sickness was given and he slept for 11 hours. He has now been up again for 24 hours. They gave him morphine last night and then anti sickness this morning but while he is relaxed he cant sleep. He keeps saying he just wants to sleep.
Any advice is greatly appreciated
Hi , The only thing I can find on Macmillan about insomnia is probably what you've already thought of. My husband's cancer causes him to wake up several times a night and finds that he sleeps better if he has a light snack just before bed. It sounds counter-intuitive but it works for him. I'm sure some of our members will come up with some ideas soon.

I've read through it all more than a few times, most dad can't do.
Unfortunately he is declining so quickly he hardly eats anything mostly yoghurt and occasionally soup, maybe a couple biscuits. He refuses when we offer him anything then an hour or so later will ask for it, which is good.
I know its common to have insomnia but we're getting to 28hrs awake now.
He said his body is relaxed but his brain wont switch off, he'll start to nod off then come awake again.
Hi , As you say, most of the usual insomnia advice would just not be appropriate. It must be hard on you as well. I hope you get some sleep through it all?

We have set up sleeping in shifts so we can keep on top of everything without burning ourselves out.
I just wish we could do something more for him
They gave dad a couple of shots last night he did get some sleep, hes now been fitted with a driver and taken off all oral meds.
The hospital told us he had to take steroids morning and night which contributed to the insomnia.
Unfortunately he wont be with us for much longer couple weeks most.
Thank you for helping

Dad passed away at 7:40 this morning. He went peacefully with all of us with him telling him how much he is loved.
I wish all of you who read this the love and strength needed to deal with this horrible disease.
Hi , I'm so sorry for your loss. How lovely that you were all giving him such comfort and thank you for your kind wishes for those of us still going through it all.
Sending much love,
