Hi
My partner who is at end of life stage will have a syringe driver fitted today to make her more comfortable as it has become difficult to administer drugs orally and regularly. She is also very confused and agitated. I understand that the drugs will now be stronger and she will no longer be able to speak. Does anyone have experience of this and how much life expectancy would be the norm?
Hi and welcome to Carers, my only experience here comes from supporting others in this situation and it varies enormously. I can see you have posted the question in Ask a Nurse and she'll get back to you, but perhaps not for a couple of days as weekends tend to be busy. If you need to talk to someone do call the helpline 0808 808 0000; it's open 8am-8pm every day and is manned by friendly experts. You will probably know by know how much communication she is able to join in with and my heart goes out to you. You are doing everything you can and she must be so grateful for your care. Do let me know how things go.
Thinking of you,
LoobyLou
