Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Haha Yes try a gardening program next then!  I caught a bit of gardeners world on TV last night (not a normal viewer but it came on) ... well they had a question and answer phone in and a lady had a question about her peonies .... the panel started giggling and nodding with a knowing look.  To be honest I started feeling quite alert at this point.  The lady needed to know why her peony was not flowering and they were keeping her in suspense ...

Don't worry, I realised your ears were your era ... I know what spell correction is like!

Hope you got a few zeds last night ... I did manage to drop off and then slept through to 8.30 this morning, awoken by the neighbours builders ... Still best I get up I suppose or I won't get any sleep tonight.

Hope you have a good day and thanks for chatting last night x

  • Hi Stew, hope you manage to get your sleep pattern sorted soon, especially with a physically demanding job.  If it's down to a subconscious thing about feeling you need to get up and use the loo, then its not easy to retrain the brain and depends on how much you do actually need the loo.  I find myself always waking after 6 hours because I'm bursting at that point and do really need to go.  If you don't think you actually need to go, then something that would allay your fear might help to retrain your brain, even temporary basis to readjust your mind.

  • Hi again you, and snap!  I did drift off eventually and also woke around 8.30 am - to raucous, barking hounds!

Anyway, I had to rise from my crypt as things to do. I needed to get cracking with H's care routine and then a visit to my eldest daughter.  A bit of shopping (I could easily have loaded it into the bags under my eyes) and then home again.

I'm not too sure about watching gardening progs, yet, but your observation was very amusing!  I'm now watching Tipping Point but it's not even touching tipping me into the sleep abyss.  Will nothing work?!

Yep, many thanks for our pre-dawn chat, too and enjoy your weekend with all the gusto you can muster.

    Take care,

  • Hi Dani!

I've never seen it as we don't have Sky or whichever chanel it's on.  Does JC have trouble sleeping too?  If so, he ought to watch Top Gear back.  I've never watched that, either, as I'm not into cars, being unable to drive.  No appeal for me or H as he had to pack in driving soon after a TIA, and lost all interest in cars since then.

Hope you're having a good weekend?

Streamed on Amazon. Live TV is largely rubbish.

  • We've only got terrestrial but I'm planning on getting Sky installed for the new football season.  H loves most sports and it'll be great for him, especially in the colder months.

There's never much on telly worth watching, but North Korean and Japanese films, mainly very late on Film 4, are very good and well made.

  • Anyway…. Go to sleep. This is an awake all night thread…. Wink

  • Haha!  I know.  I'm out in the garden again but no birds or bees this evening as it's cold and windy.  Oh, I lie.  A blackbird's singing now.

PS South Korean, not North.  That's another thing to get, Broadband, as typing on a phone is fiddly and my eyes, with accompanying bags, aren't what they were.

  • I love old movies from the 50's and 60's and have them on in the background. I don't really watch them as such, just having them on in the background seems to help! My other half doesn't mind either, so long as I keep the volume down....

Also, sounds of nature playing in the background is another thing. I love the sound of the sea and you can buy loads of nature sounds on CD or other formats...it is soothing.
