Are you having trouble sleeping?
Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.
“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

Hiya Stew.
Yep. I'm wide awake as per even though it's 1 am. Grrrrr.
So, I've just read your post (I hope to god I've not woken you up if you were asleep!) and would like to commiserate on both your op and the problems you're experiencing. I'm not surprised your job's messing with sleeping patterns if it's physically demanding.
Have you tried leaving the radio on fairly quietly once you're in bed? Many moons ago it worked for me as the more I tried to concentrate on a song, the sooner I'd nod off.
My go to trick now is to listen to ghost or horror stories on YouTube. I've found Raven Reads a good one - yeah, they're American and can be a bit of a cheese fest - but some stories are creepy and Raven has a very soothing voice.
This is all well and good, as it does get me to nod off, but I have an alarming habit of waking up between 2 and 4 am almost every sodding night! I become wide awake, again, and it can take another couple of hours to get back off. It's seriously annoying stuff.
Now the perpetually rubbish sleeping pattern doesn't seem to impinge on my everyday life but lawks, it plays havoc with my face! I avoid looking in mirrors, if possible, but when I catch a glance I recoil at the gargoyle looking back at me. Awful!
Anyway, take care Stew and my ramblings may provide a cure for your insomnia, if nothing else.
Gill xx
I wasn't sure whether to post in case this wakes up those of you who arr finally off to sleep?
I'm tossing and turning tonight ... anyone else?
Yes, me.
Don't worry Tinks, I've tried everything to drift off tonight. A raft of old TOTPs on BBC 4 followed by a host of 80s music programmes well into the early hours. It's not even my ears FGS! Even Raven hasn't managed to lull me with her soothing repertoire of creepy stories.
I give up. I think I'm destined to be a night owl for the rest of my natural.
I do hope you're feeling a bit better this fine morning? Hey, the dawn chorus will be kicking off shortly so let's hope the avian choir, wherever you are, will provide tuneful respite to us unfortunate insomniacs.
Sending you some sleep vibes and fingers crossed they work. Take care,
Gill xx
Well if you've tried old TOTPs and 80s music and even Raven isn't working, then it must be a bad night! Makes me smile to think that ghostly stories send you to sleep ... that usually keeps people awake I would have thought!
Thanks for the sleep vibes, I hope they work. I do feel bit better today but can't switch my mind off ... not normally this bad.
Hahaha! Not me. I really love a creepy story or film, but I did rely heavily on Raven. Alas, her magic touch seems to be on the wane. *Sobs*
Maybe I should try tuning in to gardening or knitting sites? That might do the trick as I find stuff like that seriously boring.
Right love, I reckon we should both try to get some zeds in before we get half crazed through lack of shut eye. Oh, and I typed era, not ears in my previous post, but my phone spell check thinks it knows better than me and snuck it in!
Night night, or should that be morning morning?
Gill xx
Gill, you've done it again!

When I was really going through the 'wake up at silly o' clock' I never thought of watching old TOTP shows.
You are full of great ideas!
Take Care
