3rd post. Friday 9th March 2018 I attended princess grace hospital London and had a nanonife procedure done on my prostrate.
This was self funded as my insurer Aviva said that as nanonife is still considered experimental they initially would pay something towards the costs of the nanonife but that I would be excluded from claiming on anything to do with my prostrate in the future. Last Wednesday, 7 March, I had an appointment with the surgeon who carried out my neck dissection and bilateral tonsillectomy etc last August.
After a thorough examination and fibre-optic endoscopy up my nose (!), he sat back, paused and delivered the following words which are now etched in my memory...

I'm new to this post as I suppose never really thought I needed it. I was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer in Jul 2014 and had full hysterectomy in Sep 14 age 36. Please can someone help my dad is 84 he started with prostrate cancer which now has spread he’s had a catheter fitted was admitted to hospital was in for 4 weeks and was promised so many things yes he has someone to come in to wash and dress him but no McMillan care it is terminal with no treatment can someone please advise me what to do I feel as if my dad has just been left to die with no care
What they don’t tell you
Not quite halfway through this chemo shite and these are my observations on common side effects that no-one talks about too much as people tend to focus on the bigger effects. Which is quite right. A lot of people end up in hospital on a regular basis through having this treatment either very bad side effects, bloods low, infections etc.
It hit me today about the smaller side effects that have such a dramatic effect on our everyday lives.

2nd round of chemo today, went really well, DH came with me and felt fine all through it. Even drove home!!
Carried on with steroids, injections and anti sickness as per first time. Felt a bit woozy and tired but nothing unmanageable.
This 2nd round has been really good and have felt better than first!!

Oncologist again today asked how I had been and said yes all good. He said would keep dosage the same as my body seem to be tolerating it well. Good for me!!

Stomach pain and nausea make extra meds necessary, but variety in reading, lighting a candle, watching the falling snow, watching National geographic, writing blog and e-mail give distractions. Yes, reaching a bit yesterday and today, trying to find foods that will settle my stomach like hot tea, crackers, eating little but plenty of food in the house prepared.
Meditation on the Bible and prayer bring constant comfort. Variety in the above and also aromatherapy all together seem to work. Trying...
I'm sorry but the cancer is back and there is nothing more we can do, are the words no one wants to hear. Dad had been struggling to swallow again over the xmas, only had his peg removed that September and seemed to be recovering well from tongue cancer which had spread to the lymph nodes, but after choking on everything he ate he was booked in to investigate why after the new year.
