Well hello,
I have not blogged for a bit as I decided to be selfish and enjoy some symptom free time, if you don't count the sheddinghair faster than a golden retriever. I managed to drive for 2 hours to my sister and join the girls of the family in my Neices hen party. So glad i did it. Then came back to ready myself for round 2!
Had the bloods. check. Remembered no micropore tape. check. ( I still have a scar on my arm from week one from the nastty tape lol.
Chemo day. I had reflexology for...
I rang the oncology department on Weds last week to chase up when mum would be seen by the consultant and we've now got an appointment this coming Wednesday. Not much longer to wait now to get to the bottom of what a going on. Mum saw her surgeon on Thurs last week in reference to her lymphodema and he put her on the urgent discussion list for the MDT meeting on Friday for them to talk through her results and possible next treatment etc so I'm hoping this will mean when we go on Weds there will be...
During surgery I had groin lymph nodes removed from both the offending right side and left. Latest news is that nothing showing from left side but 3 out of 11 nodes showing signs on the right side.
Chatting to youngest daughter and saying it seemed a bit brutal to take left lymph nodes out.
Her comment? ‘ Honestly Mum, if they had to call you back later to remove the left nodes you’d be gutted!’
It took her a while for the ‘penny to drop’ :/
After my surgery I seem to still be quite bloated and swollen in the lower abdomen. I did have lymph nodes removed on both sides so this is to be expected. But this morning in the shower I suddenly realised when I looked down I could actually see my feet!
What a sense of achievement this has brought to my day - totally ridiculous!
In other news - Macmillan Coffee Morning raised £210.30 which for a tiny village population is great.
So 2 things which made me smile today.
Hi all
Thought I should update as it has been a while.
The best news I can give is there is no news, nothing has really changed, just like normal life it keeps ticking away except there is an undercurrent that ebs through each day nothing tangible, I wouldn’t describe it as anxiety just an awareness of my fragility.
As a couple we have taken sometime for each other with days away, holidays are a struggle for me, I worry about going abroad and the lack in insurance, I also find the travelling...
I had a PET scan on Tuesday and had an anxious couple of days waiting for the results. Everything seems to be fine. Hallelujah! I also asked about my blood results as I hadn't received a copy. I had been worried that maybe they were not good and that's why they hadn't sent them to me. Tumour markers showed 2 (last time 1.8 and time before 1.6). Naturally, I see a worrying trend of them on the increase. The "normal" values should be 5 or less so I know that I'm worrying unnecessarily but I think that...
Final PET scheduled for next Thursday. Consult with Oncology next Friday
After Terry's 6th and final RCHOP treatment, we had a little rough time of it, as the fatigue was the worst. The day after his last treatment (3 weeks ago today), he immediately started to "drag". It was the worst recovery time he suffered through these past 5 months of chemo. Never really had much appetite or nausea through it all; but the fatigue, definitely, builds. It took him a good week and a half to start...
Well here I am.
Back at home after surgery and a slightly longer than expected hospital stay.
Due to holidays I was handed to another consultant therefore I was facing surgery with no prior meeting. I was anxious anyway but the night before surgery I had a call from the man himself! What a difference that made! Felt totally reassured about what was coming plus the man had a delightful sense of humour.
No laughter on my part when we actually met just before surgery and confirmation that as well as...
I feel like I need somewhere to write everything down and to try and process my feelings...I'd better start with some background.
My mum first battled cancer in 2011, she had a persistent cough and sore throat and had multiple blood tests at our GP surgery & was told her white blood count was high so her body was showing signs of infection etc given multiple antibiotics and sent on her way. She didn't give up and kept going back, one time seen by our GP and a trainee Dr who examined her throat...
At 3.25pm on Tuesday May 8th 2018 I first heard the words. “You have prostate Cancer” At 8.30 pm 5 hours later whilst listening to my Football team Swansea City play Southampton in a battle for relegation survival I decided to write and put my feelings into Print. The words from the Doctor were like a dagger and it felt surreal. My wife grabbed my hand and I felt the blood draining from my body. I knew instinctively something was up when the Doctor came in shook my hand and said he was...
