    OPERATION OVER

I had my operation yesterday - cystectomy, hysterectomy and some bits and bobs done. I'm doing well, the doctor is pleased. The operation only took three hours and I didn't need to go to intensive care because the doctor said I'm very fit apart from the cancer. I look better than I expected too. I got up for two hours today. I was on oxygen and a drip til a bit earlier when they were taken out. Dean, my partner, came over for the afternoon. Stiggy, my dog, is missing me and I him. One of my wounds...

    Coping with a cancer diagnosis

I read many posts from different people with different types of cancer, but the one common thing I hear a lot is the warmth from others who are equally going though a rough time yet they are prepared to share their experience and knowledge.

I didn’t react to being diagnosed with womb cancer in any way I expected. I just sat there pretty much indifferent, just like I had been told something trivial. I think it took along while before it all sank in what was wrong with me. I never had children and...

My personal journey with womb cancer

I was diagnosed with womb cancer in June 2017. After months of going back and too to my doctor and having tests at the hospital. For a long time I was told I only had fibroids and nothing sinister to worry about, but I knew something was very wrong. I think you know your own body.

It was a week before my 38th birthday that I was told I had cancer. I can remember waiting to see the gynaecologist, I noticed that my consultant was about at the clinic, so I was surprised I saw another consultant...

    Mass detect of me...

It is the shirt time of year, the season between the summer dress and the polo neck, the autumn of the fashion world.  I am an accomplished recover-er, but I can't lie...

    It's there in the mirror,

    Quite plain to see,

    A patchwork frontage,

    That ravages me.

    The flesh that the leeches.

    Sucked back to life,

    Piqued from the preaches.

    Of keen midwife.

    Accessorize, dress it up,

    Starts the day,

    But though out of sight,

    It just won't go away.

    Innately repulsing,

    The cancer we fear,

    Yet the...

    CYSTECTOMY OPERATION TOMORROW

It's my cystectomy operation tomorrow. I feel relaxed and in a strange way excited. Life will be different afterwards. I feel like I'm going on a trip, an adventure. I bought a few more clothes today for knocking about in when I come home. I'm spending the next couple of hours lazing on the new bed watching TV. I've said my prayers so I guess I'm in God's hands now. May he grant my surgery team skill.

    Mum

This is a self indulgent blog and a tribute to my mum.

I've struggle to write this one as I have so many thoughts surrounding my mum some positive some not so.

My mum was the complete opposite to me in the way she conveyed her love, she was not demonstrative, there were no hugs or I love yous, no kisses, I still hug and kiss my girls even though they are grown up, and I gush about them publicly at every opportunity, I have no idea if my mum spoke of me even fondly to anyone.

    TWO DAYS TO THE OP

Two days to go til my operation on Saturday. I got my Macmillan grant yesterday so I will be able to get new clothes with elasticated waist etc. I got two new tops that are slightly longer than usual to cover stoma area when wearing jeans. I bought two pairs of stretch jeggings which are great, loose on the waist.  I've been practicing with the pretend stoma and bags and am amazed how totally unnoticeable it is, even with the jeggings which I thought would show it, being stretch, but no. It's a really...

From the Ashes Comes the Rise of the Phoenix

there is a saying in life that 'everything happens for a reason'.  At the time of my Cancer diagnosis I would have scorned disdainfully at this type of comment.  Yet as I approach the 4 year mark of undergoing the surgeon's knife for what should have been the simple removal of a benign cyst, only to wake up to the horror and realisation that the evil plague of Cancer had caused mutations that would require invasive neck surgery and an aggressive tonsillectomy, I realise that from bad and evil...
