You Couldn’t Make it Up – Part 2
After yesterday’s long epistle, I thought I would leave the actual clinic story until today. Give you all a bit of breathing (and in Carolannt’s case, peeing) space, as it were. The clinic was quite bland compared with the journey up there but – as befits a great National Health Hospital – Salisbury could still spring a few surprises. Marly asked about parking at SDH (Salisbury District Hospital) and was surprised when I found a parking space so easily. The reason is that there are acres of parking...

    Home after surgery
I'm home after a hysterectomy. They couldnt save my fertility but I am glad now that they have hopefully removed all the cancer. I get my results of the lymph nodes and margins on Friday and get to have my catheter out! It was pretty awful surgery (key hole is great in the long run but the short term wind pain if awful). I am not sure how I got through the 1st 24 hrs but I did and I was allowed home after 48 hrs (stubborness). Today - 5 days after surgery - I am finally feeling a bit better. Less...

    My son
I want to say thank you to everybody who read my blog and took the trouble to comment. It helps - it definitely does. My husband, my mum and I have been round their flat today, as they are moving on Saturday to a new flat, and we are helping them clean, etc. Doing something practical for him really helps - so I stopped at Tesco's on the way and bought them good, healthy food so he can build himself up. He's like a beanpole. You may think 'why isn't his wife doing that?' Well, it's complicated. He...

light at the end of the tunnel?
I havent been on this site long but have read so many interesting, heartwarming, happy and sad stories that I felt the need to add mine.I was dx with bc in 2007, 22nd October the day after my eldest daughters 20th birthday. The only other person who knew I had bc was my friend Janice who came with me and sat through all my tests and was with me when the doc and breast care nurse broke the news ( I felt so sorry for her she went to pieces). Then it was home to break the news to everyone my 11 yr old...

    Starting orders....
Just a quick update this time. My wound is almost healed (it has only taken 3 months since the 2nd op!) My Portacath is being fitted on Thursday afternoon (but they haven't told me whether it is a local or general anaesthetic they will be using!!!) My chemo will start (probably) on Monday at 11am, possibly Tuesday but definitely next week! They were going to start me this Friday but because that would mean I'd most likely be sick on the weekend when the kids are pretty full on and would most...

    You couldn’t make it up………really you couldn’t!
I’ve always thought that I’m a wordsmith – a bit of a writer (although I have no idea which bit!) People that know me well certainly say that I’m an Artist – but they usually precede the word Artist with another word, far too rude to place before your tender young eyes. However, I’ve had the kind of day that just could not be imagined. Are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin……. Last night, I had set the alarm for 07:00 this morning – my reasoning was simple. Get up at 7 – then a leisurely...

    Chondrosarcoma
Bit jittery this week as I go in for my op next Tuesday to try to remove the tumour from the artery. I have found out that this cancer responds to something called a proton blaster, or proton therapy. Guess where, the good old USA. Why have we not got at least 1 machine here? It is very successful. Another method, which I have not been told about by my consultant is Gamma Knife, again successful. There is one in Sheffield. Is this the post code lottery we are told about? We should be lobbying...

    A year on......
Well, what a difference a year makes.......... Tomorrow will be a year to the date since I had my last chemo. I feel like I should mark the occasion with a short blog! I am in good health (fingers crossed), feel great and have watched my baby turn one. He has reached many milestones (many many more to come as well), including walking in the last few weeks and we brought his first pair of shoes the other day. How wonderful life can be...... how terrible I know it can be as well. I am still grappling...

    Return to work
Today was another milestone in my journey. After almost a years absence from work I finally returned today and am phasing back in to the daily routine over the next few weeks. What a welcome I got, from my work colleagues, from the children and from their parents (I am a nursery nurse) it was better than any medicine! For the last year my life has been taken up with treatments, hospital appointments and the turmoil of emotions that go hand in hand with cancer. To those of you at the beginning of...
