    Radiation & Steriods

We are on our second week of aggressive radiation treatment, we are on steroids (prednisolone) to try reduce the inflammation around her brain from the radiation, seems you have to treat the treatment as well as treating the tumour! Kee is being amazing, truly brave little soul enjoys playing with the other children. GOSH is an amazing hospital, can't thank the nurses and doctors enough, very supportive and they love Kee.

We have started to have some trouble with words, she seems to slur and...

    Well that was a shock

Last friday i summond up all my effort and sat in the outpatients waiting room awaiting the results from my latest scan, as per usual the was an hour delay, which never does your nerves one bit of good, i like most people just want to get it over and done with, but like chemo for cancer the waiting to be seen by your consultant is a long drawn out affair.

the opening statement was not what i wanted to hear, "what do you know about your disease?" The horrible warning shot accross the bow to prepare...

    Turned upside down...

I'm discharged from the breast clinic,

A small step for a health cynic,

Tied up the gowns, hung up the frowns,

No longer dodging let me downs....

    No more the annual mammogram,

    I'm gambling or I'm fixed, I am!

The plastic chair, the tears, the stare,

The buttoned blouse I choose to wear,

    And hushed impending everywhere...

Won't push my luck, just au revoir,

I've huge respect for all who are

    Receiving letters, invites white,

    A first appointment, cancer fight,

    Hold tight, maybe...

    Going private - Shall I? Shan't I?

It’s been a long time since my last blog post, for lots of reasons, mostly because I’ve been feeling pretty ill and just not up to doing anything much at all.  I realised a few days ago that my days mostly consist of sleeping, and when I am awake I’m taking care of the consequences of my illness.  And that’s about it.  But I must make an effort on the days when I feel a bit better to keep up with all the kind people who make enquiries about me.  So here goes.

    I did, in fact, get...

    Diagnosis

The local charity were running a PSA testing event for people in the village, it was raining that day so we hadn't gone out. I went for the test, initially I did park in the wrong place but eventually found the centre. It was a shock to receive a letter a few weeks later saying I should go to my GP. So I ignored the letter for a few weeks, and then made the appointment. My GP turned out to be a young lady who looked about 15. She said we normally don't give this test without counseling, but in your...

    lip solar keratosis

48yrs female - spreading solar keratosis on lower lip 13 yrs
treatments so far (in this order)biopsy. liquid nitrogen. cautery curettage. efudix cream. biopsy. photodynamic therapy. biopsy. photodynamic therapy. efudix. aldara.surgeon now says option is to cut off entire lower lip as it has spread aggressively across lower lip. then reconstruct.
the biopsies so far have deformed the lip so i do not really have much faith in the reconstruction should surgery go ahead.the other option is radiation therapy...

In defence of the battle against cancer

I’ve been following the debate on whether The War Against Cancer is an unwinnable war in which the enemy is not engaged and where the collateral damage is people affected by cancer.

I’ve been mulling over where I stand on this. I can see that the fighting, battling, war-like metaphors are not always helpful. That they can leave those who “lose” the battle somehow feeling like it is their fault and put an enormous pressure on everyone to keep fighting even when the personal battle has, essentially...

  • Feel a fraud
    Fed up

Have tried really hard to be positive all the time. Was fairly certain when I found the lump just before Christmas that it would be breast cancer. Wasn't expecting it to be grade 3. Had expected surgery and was relieved to hear it hadn't travelled. Thing I am really struggling with is the preventative chemo and radiotherapy. As far as I knew before having cancer, chemo etc was to kill the cancer cells not for prevention. Not being silly, I know it has to be done but it's really hard. Picc line didn...

    My Lovely Lady Lumps

That song will never be the same to me again, not that I liked it in the first place. Breast lumps. They are still there. I am still concerned.

So I've been to see the doctor. She agrees that I am indeed developing more dodgy lumps that weren't previously there and aren't shifting either. She still doesn't know what to do. My bloods came back abnormal but a different abnormal to my usual results so she's sending an urgent fax to my haematologist to see if he wants to see me or whether he thinks I...
