I can’t believe it has been a year since I last wrote on here! Life is completely back to normal, although what is normal? It is now a little less than two years after my surgery for a mesenteric liposarcoma and I once again I have a mass in my abdomen: it has been confirmed as recurrent sarcoma. The alien has returned.

I’ve been meaning to do an update for a few weeks now while it was still November. My scan was set for 6/11 and in October I felt a lump come up in my groin, I was sure it was a lymph node near to the one that was removed in my groin in March. I pointed it out a week later at my oncology appointment and as my scan was 2 weeks later and nodes can go up and down I just went with the flow of waiting for the scan. The day of the operation; lumpectomy & lymph node removal, I went through a mixture of fear & anxiety, I cried lots & got myself into a bit of a state but also wanted to push forward & get it over & done with; in all honesty the operation was the easy bit, the radioactive dye injection beforehand was painful, but overall, after waking up from the operation, I felt fine, a little drowsy, but virtually pain free (morphine is a wonderful medicine).

I love pictures. The paper ones, mostly . . . the kind that end up in photo albums or in frames that you place in strategic places around the house, on walls or on coffee tables, so they catch your eye as you glance over at them while on your way to the kitchen or to relax in a quiet room. The electronic ones, stored on a computer or on a phone, are nice but give me the printed versions, any day, so I can stand at eye level, in front of them, or page through them, as if to play a movie of my life...
I have a recurrent liposarcoma (aka The Alien). I am starting palliative chemo with Doxorubicin. I had wanted to tell you about my preparations for chemo but my techie skills aren’t enough to force in some images I wanted to include into the Macmillan blogsite so that will have to wait.
