    Still

Five years on - I live a normal life. I’ve drawn strength from you - knowing you’d be proud of me and my decisions.

I got my home back - my home.

And in it are pictures of you and always will be.

I don’t live in agony every day anymore. But I know real love never dies and that I will carry you with me in my heart until I go. I always hope one day I will know what you know- what happens after this life. And that we will know it together.

I listen to Wings by Birdy the acoustic...

Anterior resection op successful 11th Jan

I am back home exactly one week today, following my operation on January 11th. What a week that was.

Firstly, it seemed uncertain and 'unconfirmed' that the operation would actually go ahead as hoped. London hospitals, indeed all UK hospitals are more than stretched and this notion only added a further degree of worry and anxiety. Added to this, it was made clear after my two scans, that the tumour was obstructing my colon, meaning I would very soon not be able to go to the toilet etc. A scary situation...

    "Stay Focused" 2021

It’s hard to believe that it has been over one month since we last updated our blog, it certainly is overdue.

Christmas was spent with our second eldest daughter, Dal, chose his food carefully, he had to take his time as he was concerned that he would choke at the dinner table, he felt more conscious whilst eating and I felt a little apprehensive. Dal reached for his fizzy drink a few times and I noticed myself watching him in a protective sort of way… strange, after all, we were with family...

Feeling a "right tit" as I say goodbye to my left!!
Well I am having a CT scan next Wednesday.  My surgeon told me last week that my left breast and lymph nodes are coming off. Apparently my cancer is very rare, less than 1% of women get it, so I had a five second "moment" of pride and ...

Cancer and food - how the Community can help

A close up image of fresh whole vegetables

We hear that many of you come to the Community looking for help around taking control of your diet, or worried that you might not be eating the right foods. Cancer or treatments can sometimes cause problems with eating, or may restrict what you can eat.

Whatever your situation around food, there is usually some support to be found in the Community.

Sugar-awareness is important to a healthy diet, but perhaps not for the reasons you might have seen on social media.  We hear there can be lots of misleading...

    Cervical cancer Prevention week

Let's talk about Cervical cancer prevention written in white over an image of a close up of someone's knee's wearing a hospital gown

This week is Cervical cancer prevention week. We wanted to share some information and resources to help answer many of the questions asked here on the Community.

Please remember that you are welcome to post in our Ask a Nurse section or contact the Macmillan Support Line if you need some additional guidance.

Very early stage Cervical cancer may not cause any symptoms. It is usually found and treated because of Cervical screening tests.

What are the symptoms of Cervical cancer and when should you...

Make Blue Monday a You Monday

A blue sky with a bright sun. The words make blue monday a you monday written in white

Today is known to be the bluest day of the year, so why not make your Blue Monday a YOU Monday. Last year Jimmy published 'Blue Monday is the most depressing day of the year? Only if you insist!' in the Community News Blog. Here he talks about the formula that explains why we feel so depressed on this day. Click here to read more.

    What is Blue Monday?

If you don’t know what ‘Blue Monday’ is, it is known to be a day where people feel at their lowest. After the recent festivities and the new...
