  • Hi Lara, good to hear from you! I'm 3.5 months post-op and still feel bloated some of the time. Have also got discomfort in lower legs - not sure whether this is from injuring my back recently or the start of lymphoedema (wearing compression stockings does make them feel better, but then so does practising pelvic tilts). Honestly, every time I get a twinge I think it's the cancer coming back - it's hard to move on.

Thanks for asking about check-up. It was a disaster - apparently my appointment at 3pm had been changed but I'd not been notified. So, I drove to the hospital (was 30 minutes late getting there because of roadworks) only to find I should have had a call from the consultant at 11am, and that my examination at 3pm was never going to happen. I was mightily fed up given travel chaos but hey ho. Luckily, I'd taken my appointment letter with me - the staff were very apologetic and spoke to the consultant's secretary to try and sort things out. I'm now waiting for a letter with the new date/time - have you got yours coming up soon?

    Take care,
    Dx

  • Hi Lara 5 & Dreamweaver

I feel guilty sometimes as I've not had any side effects except for the one day 1 week post first treatment. My appointments all went on time, well near enough just told one appointment was 2pm whereas it was 2.40pm . It's bad enough worrying about potentially coming close to people who believe Covid is a hoax.

Lara 5, I'd contact your CNS and have a chat. D, hope you get your appointment sorted out soon.

I've just had a thought, apart from dog walking, my last excursions out of my house where: Dentist, Flu Jab, Blood Test, Hubby's Xray, My Consultant, Hubby's Covid jab, Dentist and yesterday Covid jab! Oh what a fun life we lead LOL

Sending big hugs, Barb xx Hugging

first of all well done Barb on becoming a Community Champion I know my time on this forum you have helped me with your kind and very informative advice thank you .Unlike u I don’t have a dog so my first outing in a few months was to get Covid jab it did feel strange being in close proximity to people though we were keeping our distance hopefully this will all improve soon

    Dreamweaver

nice to hear from u I to have been suffering pains in my legs and like you my mind goes for case scenario my thighs still have pins and needles as does my belly flap (yes I have one to )from my wound they see to rub together when I feel bloated .I get twinges inside and like you I worry about  it coming back .I just want to get back to some normality which it hard some days as I seem to think about it more now than before I had op ,I can’t believe what I have gone through this last 6 months.we are lucky we are cancer free they say so I try to stay positive

i have a phone call appointment in March with oncologist but I think I would rather have seen someone but with Covid I guess they are busy .its strange we are both under same hospital but doctors seem to do different things lhope u get your next appointment soon

well it’s nice to see the evenings are stretching out and we will be getting back out in garden to help us take our mind off things

stay safe everyone and best wished xx

  • Hi Lara, and Dreamweaver. I think we all know where you are coming from, every little twinge or new development and we think IT is coming back. I had my op at the end of August and finished my third and final session of brachytherapy at the beginning of November. Two weeks ago I had my first check up but they did it by telephone. I was surprised, I thought the first check up would be face to face ( or face to other bits of the anatomy Ha ha!) but I did have an internal examination before my brachytherapy, and they said all was fine.  I asked why it was a telephone consult and they said it was cos my outlook was good and cos they didn’t want to bring people in due to Covid. And, I’ve only just been given the dilators to use, so that is 3 months after my brachytherapy. Again I expressed surprise at the delay but my CNS said they were just so busy.

I think it’s just really hard to get your head around the fact that they have taken the cancer away. I found it so hard to believe I had it in the first place, then to accept it was gone. it is beginning to fade out of my mind a bit now, but when I had a feeling of a lump in my throat I was straight on the phone to my CNS thinking some cells might have migrated and it was in my throat. It wasn’t anything serious, but you immediately start to worry about the least little twinge.  Likewise twinges in the abdomen, which is usually to do with scar tissue.

But Lara, if you are feeling worried call your team and speak to them, and ask if you can see them rather than telephone consult. They said my second check up would be another telephone consult, but if I wanted to see them it could be arranged. Just remember, you’ve had someone rummaging around inside your body, it takes time to recover from that.  Take care and look after yourselves,

  • Hi viv

thanks I did have an internal before bracky and that was ok u are right when u say about rummaging around in your body I had key hole at start but end up with abdominal so I forget what that all means for recover .i have never had an op before never mind part of me taken away Just a waiting game .Hopefully we get a ct scan at some point in the year .we will eventually calm down I hope and good luck with ur recover stay safe xx
