Hi,
as you know I’m now 10 weeks post op hysterectomy. I’ve developed both a rectal prolapse and a bladder prolapse, despite pelvic floor exercises and no lifting. My consultant recommends repairs in the future, because of Covid, but I’m really struggling to cope with the symptoms. I constantly want to pee, so I’m drinking loads, and my bowels aren’t working as good as they should. I’m taking regular pain relief, as this pain is much worse than after my surgery. It us really getting me fine, as I thought I’d be feeling much better than this by now.
Does anyone have any advice as to what I can do to ease the symptoms?
thank you, Andi ️
Hi Andi,
I'm not sure my problems were the same as yours, but some of this may help. Immediately after my operation I couldn't feel a thing, so had no idea if I needed a wee or not! They kept me in hospital for 2 days because my bladder wouldn't empty. It was at this point a kind nurse gave me the best tip I have ever had. She said to lift one leg up with your arms , then the other. And also to try leaning forward so that the bladder empties. Back home I read that you have to retrain your bladder, so I went to the loo by time. I gradually increased the time and tried to make sure I emptied the bladder each time. At the end of week 1 I had a bad night , up every few minutes to pass a thimbleful, just like having cystitis, but without any pain. I was back at the hospital in the morning being checked out. They did a water test on me, but there was no infection. They said it was all settling down, which it was, but scared me stiff!!! I presume they have tested your water?
My bowels have certainly changed. I sometimes feel as if I need to go, but nothing happens! I've found that if I sit quietly for a while it will come! None of this rushing to the loo and back!!!! All the best xxxxxx
Hi Andi
I'm sorry to hear you're having problems. I took NannyAnny's advice about lifting the legs when I had a problem peeing just after my op and it worked for me.
I think it would be good to Ask a Nurse here on the Macmillan Forum if no-one here has any suggestions. They might take a couple of days to come back. Also contact your GP if paracetamol doesn't sort out the pain.
Sending you hugs, Barb xx

Thank you ladies. My GP has given be strong painkillers & I’ve been referred back to my surgeon for prolapse repairs, not sure when that’ll happen because of COVID though. I can pee fine, just always want to go.
I’ve also been told I’m clinically depressed, so that isn’t helping my recovery either.

Hello, I am sorry to hear you are having complications after all of this.
I am worried about prolapses and tbh have no idea what to look out for. I've only just started my exercises which I assume I will have to do forever.
Is it quite common after a hysterectomy?
Hope you feel better soon x
Hello NewbieAndi
i am really very sorry to hear about everything your going though right now it seems to be one thing after the other for. I am glad to hear that your Gp has given you pain relief and referred you back to have some repair done but i know at the moment with covid it may delay things. Depression is such a very difficult thing to deal with and we all find different ways of dealing with it. For me I found arts and crafts, some enjoy a good read others just like to know their not alone. The other ladies have come up with some great advice too.
sending you a gentle bear hug
