  • Hi Laurastarshine

I am sorry to hear that you have had thyroid cancer.

It can be hard to have to take long term medication when it is giving challenging side effects. Repeat blood tests can be a worry too, especially when they are up and down. I know that for me during chemo I would be constantly worrying about certain levels being not as they should. I hope that your doctors are being supportive with the side effects.

It is natural to feel like you are struggling and feeling that normal life is very different. Would it help to talk things through with someone? You are welcome to give the Support Line a call and talk to someone. They are there from 8am-8pm everyday if you feel it would help. They can also have a look to see if there is any support in your local area that may help.

  • Honestly as soon as they regulate your meds things will settle down

  • Hi Lauratstarshine

I am sorry to hear you are struggling. I had my surgery on Monday, and like you, had my thyroid removed and will be on meds for the rest of my life too. I was taking Levothyroxine 100mg for a number of years already, but after the surgery, my dose was upped to 150mg a day.

    Hope you will be ok.

  • Hi I had my thyroid removed due to papillary carcinoma thyroid cancer in july 2024 my thyroid levels ok but still have calcium problem I've been on and off adcal supplements had lots of dosage changes in the calcium supplements, seen an endocrinologist then they discharged me on a reduction and calcium went back down, gp put me back on 3 adcal calcium supplements and now  gp going to write back endocrinologist for advice, endocrinologist discharged me cause parathyroid was in range but at lower end. I ask gp if it was permanent, she said its down to endocrinologist. Crazy it's been nearly 2 years and still not been told weather it's permanent. How's your calcium. When did you have your surgery.
