Anyone else had Thy3f?

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all well.

I am new to this group, and quite nervous sending this message.

I was diagnosed with a rare thyroid cancer in 2014. I had a full thyroidectomy and radiotherapy.

All has been well, until 2023. A nodule was found in the right thyroid bed (where the cancer was initially found). I have had two biopsies, the first one there wasn't enough sample obtained. The second time 6 samples were obtained, this all done via a FNA.

I got the results yesterday 23.02.26, the results were thy3f (apparently inconclusive)... I don't know how to feel or what to expect next. I have to wait for 4 weeks until MDT has taken place.

Has anyone undergone or going through this? Have they had the same results? I just want answers and this has been going on since 2023....

Thank you for reading this long message Pray

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

I've searched the group for previous posts which mention thy3f and found these for you to have a look through. The most recent poster is  so I've 'tagged' them into my reply and hope they'll pop on to share their experiences with you.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi Reems

I am going through something similar, i have a 3cm nodule on my left side.  I had a fna and it was benign. But they wanted to repeat it 3 months later. They have repeated it and it has come back as thy3f. I have seen the consultant and they want to remove half my thyroid. I have since started with pain in my neck, behind my ear and shooting pain in my forehead. I have been given another appointment next week with the consultant.

  • Hi Bluebell12,

Thank you for taking time to reply to me.

I am sorry to hear you are going through this as well. If you ever need to talk I'm always happy to lend an ear.

Have you had your thyroid glands removed?

My nodule is 8mm and I am waiting for the MDT to make a decision.

  • Thank you and same to you x

no not had any surgery as yet. No one has even mentioned MDT to me.

hopefully, you will get some new soon x

  • Thank you xx

I've been through what you're going through and happy to answer any questions you might have. Xx

  • Thank you so much. It’s the waiting that’s the problem for me x

  • I feel your pain. We are both in the same position.

I do personally do meditation and some crafts which help my mind stayed occupied. I am also going to start journaling as well and this is because I am reminding myself that I am a fighter.
