Post-Orchidectomy swelling

Hi everyone.

Im new to the forum so hope this is okay to post.

I had an Orchidectomy for my left testicle last Friday after finding a lump back in June. Surgery was fine but since there has been a fair bit of swelling and my scrotum on that side has turned purple.

The wound itself has also swollen up quite a lot today. This may be as I iced the area today to try and reduce swelling. It’s quite hard to tell what’s normal though and I’ve read lots of different things online.

Did anybody else suffer with a purple scrotum? I’ve managed to book in with a hospital clinic tomorrow to get checked out for infection etc.

As my surgery was on a Friday afternoon I was kicked out with very few instructions about aftercare and what to except so it’s all a bit of a learning curve.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello FPDizzle

I hope you don't mind me replying as I had a different kind of cancer but hoping that by doing so it will bump your post back to the top.

I am sorry to see that you had a diagnosis of testicular cancer in June that led to the surgery last week.

The swelling sounds very uncomfortable for you and am glad that you managed to contact the hospital to be seen in clinic.

Hopefully they were able to give you the support you needed.

Hopefully someone will now see your post and offer support but in the meantime if there is anything else you need, please do ask.

    Jane

  • I totally agree. I’m caring for my partner who is very unusual in having had a radical orchidectomy 3 days ago. He has a swollen scrotum now and it’s impossible to find out what is normal! There does seem to be a distinct lack of information for men. As a woman, we are inundated with images and information about post mastectomy but I discovered my partner had awful images in his mind what his scrotum would like like after…

does anyone agree that it would be helpful to know more bout what to expect?

  • I meant to add it’s unusual that he’s 65 and not a youngster!
