my husband was diagnosed with TC in November after being in sever abdominal and back pain for months.
He was told stage 3b, had 4 x BEP, and last week had RPLND at which time he lost a kidney (the other has some residual) and some spots were noted on his pancreas.
we are told he will need referal to a specialist surgeon to remove spots off pancreas and referral to a chest surgeon for removal of the nodes.
we also over heard that he can’t have any more chemo? I’m assuming because of the loss of kidney. Has anyone else been in this situation, we aren’t really sure of prognosis
Hi BB,
I’m sorry you find yourself here, but welcome.
Prior to chemo the doctors tested my kidney function, so kidney function is clearly important when deciding if chemo is appropriate. Having one kidney may mean that it’s risky to give further chemo - obvious but best advice is to ask your husbands consultant directly what is possible and why.
The hospital suggesting further treatment, operations to remove remaining nodes, would suggest they are hopeful that the surgery can make the difference.
I think the best thing you can do is prepare your questions in advance, and get the answers from your consultant at the next opportunity.
take care
dan
