Hi all, my dad has recently been diagnosed with stage 2 stomach cancer after having camera down throat and them emergency ct scan. In between waiting for results my dad was inpatient for pneumonia a heart failure (fluid). Day he was being discharged the lady who organised ct scan phoned me to say wanted to speak to us so she came to ward and broke the diagnosis news to my dad and myself. Unfor
nately due to dad's comorbidities he can't have operation, radiotherapy and also chemotherapy. We were just left to go home, no consultant as no treatment
he is being seem by heart failure community team but as far as cancer diagnosis we feel we are in limbo on what to expect etc both my sister and myself are personal assistants to both my father and mum so just don't know what to feel etc.
Anyway thanks for reading
Hi Taafey,
I thought I’d reach out to say I’ve read your post and I’m so sorry and saddened to hear about your Dad’s diagnosis and the additional terrible news that he isn’t being offered treatment.
I hope someone can give you more practical advice than I can. I’m aware you could reach out to potentially get a second opinion if you go back to your Dad’s GP and Macmillan is also very helpful, you can get in touch with a nurse for better advise, or organise for someone to give you a ring and talk through your Dads situation.
All the best to you and your family, hopefully you can all be each other’s support during such a hard time.
HI
I am so sorry to hear of your Dads diagnosis. Unfortunately my Mum was was also recently diagnosed and the same as your Dad was offered no treatment plan at all due to her comorbidities . Like you we felt left totally in limbo and left to just get on with it. I'm sorry that I cannot help but wanted to reach out and let you know that you are not alone. At the moment Mum is under the care of her GP, however, we feel we are consistently being pushed from pillar to post by both the GP and Macmillan nurse (Macmillan feel Mum is not ready to be under their care - they assessed her on a good day) and the GP passes us back to Macmillan when we have questions. It is so frustrating when all you want to do is help your loved ones.
Thank you for your response, unfortunately everyone we talk to is of the same opinion as his body won't cope with treatment and if they operated what quality of life check would he have if any complications. We are seeing a oncologist psychologist tomorrow so hopefully we will gather how to cooe and deal with situation. Many thanks for reaching out xx
Hi I am so sorry to hear about your mum, life is so cruel. I hope she is not on too much pain. Very frustrating when getting passed pillar to post. I was told gp deals with until they are unable to provide Adequate medication and then that's were mcmillan and district nurses take control. I would demand to be told the protocol that they follow. Thank you for reaching out and my thoughts are with u xx
