New, worried and a bit scared!!

Hi everyone,

Very new to this site and I'm here because I've scared myself silly by googling my symptoms - I'll bet I'm not on my own but self diagnosis while waiting for an ultrasound is too tempting.  I have a hard lump deep in my upper arm, that was checked out a few years ago and I was told it was nothing to worry about,  I can certainly feel the lump now its grown and my arm feels tender in that area along with a painful shoulder which I just put down to old age (young 55), I'm sure I can feel other small lumps along the muscle in my arm.  This lump is very hard and about the size of my thump nail.

GP has requested numerous blood tests and I've got my appointment for an ultrasound - in 2 weeks.  I've checked my symptoms online and they all come back the same thing, it's a Soft tissue sarcoma.  I'm asking if other people on here have had similar symptoms and can offer me any advice, support etc.  The waiting is the hardest, I've even resorted to checking out ultrasound images online so I can take a peek when I have my ultrasound.  I'm very anxious as I had a malignant melanoma 7 years ago on my face, so anything vaguely lumpish and I instantly jump to the conclusion it's cancer.  Any advice or support would be a huge help.  Thank you and good health to you all xx

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to our community

Lumps and bumps are really very common and soft tissue sarcoma is rather rare so fingers crossed when they told you it was nothing to worry about they were on the right lines - even if just saying "don't worry" is not totally helpful.

Waiting is indeed very hard as we can see in this blog. Doctor google has some very poor bedside manner and of course people do love sharing some good horror stories.

For us, my wife has Leiomyosarcoma. She has had two lots of chemotherapy and the second of those rendered her cancer stable and it has been that way for over 10 years now - living with cancer rather than any alternative.

    <<hugs>>
