My husband has had a tumour removed from his buttock. A very large incision, as the tumour was embedded in the gluteous maximus and all had to be removed. He is still in hospital eight weeks after the operation as the wound is not closing at one bad damaged patch of skin caused by the radiotherapy he had prior to surgery. Has been told will take a long time to heal, but will eventually, although may need a skin graft at some point. They are putting on honey dressings at the moment to aid healing. He will be sent home soon. He will have return regularly to have it checked. Interested to know if anyone else has had this wound healing problem
Hi Aileen
Welcome to our community, I hope you find it both informative and supportive.
My name is Steve and I am one of the community champions, my expereince of cancer is via my wife who has Leiomrosarcoma.
My wife had an emergency hysterectomy and after she started to get mobalised her wound broke back open and became infected. When she was dscharged from hospital they were using seaweed (alginate) dressings and they were being changed every day - the district nurse came to our house so we were quite lucky but it did mean we had to arrange to have a medical waste collection at home. It was amazing whatching this hole gradually knit itselft back together.
