Hi all had quite a day of it yesterday.
I have soft tissue endometrial sarcoma with abdominal and lung secondaries. I had a lung biopsy on the 18th Jan and got the results yesterday.
The lung tumours are breast cancer secondaries. I had breast cancer 8 years ago and had bilateral mastectomies. Has anyone out there got two types of cancer?
Thanks Nanci
Hi Nanci
It is fairly rare to get two types of cancer, then of course sarcoma is a rare form of cancer too. Life does seem to like kicking us when are down.
My wife has Leiomyosarcoma that is incurable but with a could of rounds of chemotherapy (and some interesting side effects) they have managed to render her cancer stable - and we have been in the happy state of living with cancer now for 6 years, so much so that the oncologist is now talking of discharging her to the care of our GP.
<<hugs>>

Morning Jane thank you for your kind words. I am feeling a bit more stable and in control today. Tomorrow is admission day and I will get to meet my gynae surgeon and anaesthetist. May sound strange but I can't wait to get under the knife so to speak. I just want this waiting to be over. I am feeling relatively positive about the surgery. I realised a few days ago that one of my cousins had the same procedure for ovarian cancer. She is doing very well 8 years after. I am putting the lung cancer to the back of my mind. One thing at a time.Best wishes Nanci
Morning Nicky. I am sorry you got such a s***y diagnosis. Like you my leiomyosarcoma was diagnosed because of a secondary problem. I have a long term spinal issue and ended up in A&E where they did an ultrasound and found endometrial thickening. A Pet scan then showed the lung cancer which a biopsy showed to be breast cancer. Tomorrow I have gynae surgery but I have no idea how they will treat the lung cancer. It's a pretty brutal process isn't it? I wish you well and thank you for your good wishes. Hopefully we will be in touch in the future with more positive news.
Nanci
Hi Nanci, wishing you well for tomorrow! , i cannot help as no experience of lung issues sorry... all my treatment has been surgery, no chemo etc..keeping everything crossed for positive news! I think 1 thing at a time is how i would deal with it as well x
Thank you Nickythe clinical nurse specialist rang this morning the senior surgeon wants to see me in clinic ahead of my admission. I was worried they want to cancel the surgery but she said the oncologists said it was important to do it. I think they just want to be sure that I understand the risks.
My feeling is that to have any quality of life I need the clearance. I am willing to take the surgical risk.
Hope to be in touch on the other side of surgery god bless and very best wishes.
Nanci
Hi nickyjj thanks for your message. Things have been a bit up and down since the surgery. Initially I did really well post op then my bladder went on strike and I was readmitted to hospital. The next week or so was pretty horrible as I also started to develop ascites. However I have been waiting and hoping that an appointment with the breast oncologist booked for last Thursday would give me the next stage of treatment. The appointment was not what I hoped though. The clinic was running 1 and1/2 hours late, so stressful. Then they took me into a cubicle and asked me to strip so they could examine my breasts. As I don't have any I didn't take that very well. Very long story short I had been sent an appointment for the breast surgery instead of the oncologist, in error they said!
The consultant did tell me that my case had been discussed at MDT and the oncologists said that as I had so much sarcoma in my abdomen they didn't think it was worth treating the breast cancer in my lungs.
All of this was pretty awful and I have to be honest and say I lost it and behaved pretty badly, but I had just reach the end of my tether.
Yesterday was much better the CNS and Macmillan nurses got into the whole mess and started to sort it out. So next week I have a phone consultation with the breast oncologist next Friday morning and another with the palliative care consultant on Tuesday. They are also chasing up the gynae oncology referral.
I have booked another seaside holiday from 19 th March at Beadnell on the Northumberland coast a fav spot of mine so very much looking forward to that. How are things going with you.
