Hello all,

I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced swelling of the skin around the bcc site making the area prominent?? This is all new to me so i do not know if this is a silly question or not?

Thanks

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

Please don't worry about asking anything you want to here. No question is silly when you don't know the answer. Having said that I can't help with your question as mine was a melanoma not a BCC.

I had a peek at your profile before replying to see where you were in your journey with basal cell carcinoma but you haven't completed it yet. Have you been diagnosed with a BCC or are you just at the stage of going to see your GP?

When you have a minute, it would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi - I think I know what you mean. I had a BCC on my left cheek, and I felt the area around it looked slightly swollen, but when I mentioned this to the consultant and later the oncologist  they didn't think it was significant. My husband says he can't see anything at all, so I'm not sure if I'm imagining it!

Now, after the biopsy and two weeks of radiotherapy, it does look inflamed, but that's to be expected after all the trauma!

I would mention it to the doctor or consultant when you see them, so they can reassure you. It is a worrying time, and BCCs can manifest themselves in so many different ways it is hard to know what is 'normal'. I hope you have your treatment soon.
