So I'm back here after five or is it four years with another growth and I have a scc, I think, that has grown to four mm diameter in four weeks and my question is that they say scc is slow growing and if its fast growing then its more of a problem BUT no onw defines fast...... what is Fast growing please?
I think that would probably be defined as fast, though I am no expert. I had a SCC which, after sitting there like a tiny pimple for about 6 months, suddenly did the same thing. It was really alarming. It went from a tiny spot easily covered by makeup to a huge 8mm crater/volcano in about 3 weeks. There is also a benign tumour called keratoacanthoma which is really difficult to tell from a SCC even when examined in a lab. One of the main features of keratoacanthoma is how fast they grow. As they are so difficult to tell apart, they are treated as though they are a SCC. Mine came back from the lab as stage 1 SCC but my dermatologist said that due to the speed it grew, it may have been a keratoacanthoma. Hope you get yours sorted easily.

Hello,
I don't know about SCC but I do know that BCC have very irregular growth, it might be really slow for a long time then have a spurt. SCC might be the same. My BCC was growing really rapidly before it was removed, it grew 2mm in the 11 days before my surgery. I was worried that meant it was infiltrative or high risk but it wasn't. Hopefully it will be the same for you.
Dear Julesonabike, thank you for your response. I originally had a bcc near my collar bone and had it removed, then a larger excision to be sure, I'd rather have a large scar (off my face) than doubt and this was then followed by the keratoacanthoma on the lip and your right it might be that...... Let's hope.
Anyway its growing fast or seels to be....
I will see the dermatology dept soon but just wondered why medical information uses such silly phrases such as fast or slow which doesn't really mean anything.
Thanks again
Dear CJSL
thanks for your reply. Yes I was concerned as the literature says fast growth is more likely to spread but how long is a piece of string and how fast Is fast.....
