Hi,

early days for me but my mri gave me score of 4 but could still be prostatis, benign something or BPH.

psa level is 7. I am 53and  No getting up in the night and pee normal levels especially after drinking green tea during day!

biopsy next week but still a bit worried of course despite 70% of me being ok.
anyone else heading for a. Biopsy?

  • Hi Bsimon

I’ve just signed up, early days for me too. Had my biopsy last week and was quite worried about it but I took the general anaesthetic option and glad I did, nothing to worry about, bit of blood in urine for a few days but otherwise ok. Just waiting for the results, not too confident as had a Pirads reading of 5. Good luck with your result.

  • Hi,

I am 4.  But take heart - it still could be any number of things without being cancer.
if it is something nasty- all very treatable.
    what was your psa?

  • Hi  and  , this is a tricky time until you get a diagnosis and a treatment plan.  Unfortunately the biopsy is the route to confirm if you have PCa.  As you are probably aware, the MRI would provide information about any possible spread and as neither of you have mentioned that fact, in the event that PCa is diagnosed you would both likely be on a curative path.  Please ask any questions and good luck with the biopsies and results.

    Best wishes, David

  • Hi David

Sorry for late reply, life sort of gets in the way. The letter I received had the 3 words I don’t like to see in a sentence-unfortunately, malignant and tumour so I imagine the biopsy will confirm the presence of pc, I still find it difficult to say cancer, crazy I know ; in denial I suppose. Is the “ curative path” the one that doesn’t involve surgery? Thanks for replying

    Best wishes

  • Hi Bsimon

sorry for late reply, not quite got used to the site. My psa was 5.7; I’m 65 so it’s only slightly raised

  • hi, my psa was 5.7 the day i had my ldr brachytherapy and my gleason was 3 + 4. all the detail is in my bio

  • Hi  ,

Sorry for late reply, life sort of gets in the way.

I like the idea that ‘life gets in the way’ as it is far too easy to let cancer take over!

Until you get your diagnosis, terms like ‘curative’ are unknown.  In my simple terms, PCa diagnosis fall into the following categories:-

    1. Not very aggressive and contained - Active Surveillance (this is watch and wait, no treatment and can be for years)

    2. Contained but near edge - Needs removal and/or treatment but likely to be curable

    3. Just broken out of Prostate to local surrounding - removal too late but treatable and likely to be cured.

    4. Broken out into lymph nodes but nothing else detected - becoming curable.

    5. Spread beyond local - unlikely to be curable (but techniques improving all the time) but definitely treatable.

Hopefully, someone else will provide a link to a booklet which explains all this.  Out of interest, I am in category 5 above and am 8 years into my journey.  Hope this helps.

    Best wishes, David
