As there are no local support groups in Sittingbourne, this is a shout out to anyone who lives within reasonable travelling distance who may be interested in forming our own informal group where we can just meet up for a cuppa and a chat.
Hi GR1
I'm Steph from the Community team, I hope you don't mind me popping in to offer some information in case it's helpful.
Although I haven't been able to find any support groups in Sittingbourne itself, we do have details of the closest groups and services available to you:
In Your Area search for Sittingbourne
If you haven't already, it might be worth speaking to the team at your nearest Macmillan Information and Support centre at Maidstone. They might have more local knowledge around informal meets. If you do want to start your own support group, they may be able to help with this too.
We also have a booklet about setting up a support group here.
The local contact in your area can be found here.
I have also found some details of other charities who might be able to help:
Prostate Cancer UK - PCSA Prostate Cancer Support Association Kent
In the meantime, the Online Community is open 24hrs a day, every day of the year. I hope you're able to find the shared support that you're looking for here.
In case it's helpful, we do have some Community Guidelines around keeping safe online. To protect your privacy, we ask that you don't share personal information or ask others for their details live on the forums. If you want to contact another member, please send them a private message through the site.
If you would like any help with the Online Community, we're here to support you. You can email the team on community@macmillan.org.uk
We also have a Macmillan Support Line if you want to talk things through with someone who is there to listen and find out more about the emotional, practical and financial support we can offer. Our Support Line teams are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00, email or live webchat.
I hope the Community and Macmillan show you that you don’t need to go through anything alone.
Kindest Regards,
Thank you. Of course I don't mind.
At this stage I'm not ready to think about taking on the commitment of setting up a formal support group. I'm thinking more of an informal group who would like to have meet ups for a chat over a cuppa to perhaps talk about anything but PC.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
