Hello everyone,

I’m Tom from the Community team, I hope you don’t mind me posting here today.

I’m here to let you know that we will be making some changes to this group in the week commencing the 8th of March. Following feedback from the Community, we are developing the group to have three sections. It will look like this:

You'll all be able to start a discussion in the same way, but there will be an option of three areas in which to post (see below). Replies will work in exactly the same way as they do now.

Please don't worry too much if you're ever not sure which section best fits your post, the new structure is not intended to restrict conversations in any way. For example, you are still very welcome to chat in the diagnosis and treatment section if the discussion results in a longer conversation.

We expect to see benefits to new members in providing a dedicated space for them to introduce themselves. Existing members should be able to more easily find discussions around diagnosis and treatment, whilst enjoying a space to continue longer chats and discuss everyday life, and give and get support.

Underneath the new sections, you’ll still be able to see ‘all discussions’ from the group in a combined feed, just like you do now.

I hope you will like the new structure and please do let us know your thoughts. We're constantly working on the user experience on the site, as making the Community the best place for peer-to-peer cancer support is at the heart of everything we do. We are continually listening to feedback and making changes to the site which will improve the experience for all our members and make sure everyone can access the right support for them, when they need it.

If you have any questions or comments about the new group structure, we would love to hear from you by email at community@macmillan.org.uk or you can ask for help using the site in the Help group here.

Kindest Regards

Tom

  • Thanks Tom. It would be great if you could make the "Latest" links work at the same time!

In case you aren't aware, the first part of the "Latest" link doesn't take to to the most recent post, but to the first post in a thread. However the second part does if it's displaying a time but doesn't if it's displaying three dots. I don't think it can be that hard to fix.

  • Hi

I'm Steph, I work alongside Tom in the Community team. Thank you very much for taking the time to share your thoughts.

I'm really sorry that it's currently not so easy to navigate straight to the latest replies in a thread. I appreciate that must be really frustrating. This was one of the improvements we mentioned in our update on the Community here. I'm afraid we're still waiting for that improvement to be made, but it shouldn't be too much longer.

In the meantime, thank you very much for your patience. I'm afraid that the 'latest' issue isn't something the Community team can fix from here. The fix involves some more complicated technical work from other teams, but as I say, we're expecting this work to be completed very soon.

I wondered if you knew that there is sometimes a workaround? If you can see a time stamp of the latest post (e.g. '8 days ago'- see below) then if you click on those words, rather than 'latest' then you will be taken to the last page of the thread.

It looks a little different on a mobile, but you can still click on the timestamp when you see it to be taken to the last page.

I hope that makes sense, but please do let us know if you'd like some more help with that.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts. If you have any further questions or feedback, we would love to hear from you by email at community@macmillan.org.uk or you can ask for help using the site in the Help group here.

The Community team are now also available on live webchat (please click and choose the Community option at the bottom of the list to chat live with the team between 9-5, Mon-Fri).

    Kindest Regards

  • Thanks for the reply Steph. I think that's what I tried to say in my first reply.

Yes, it works fine on my mobile phone as the links aren't truncated to three dots. I look forward to seeing the fix.

  • Thanks , It's great you know about the workaround, but as you say, it really shouldn't be too much longer before it will work properly.

We've just posted a blog about the improvements here and hope all the testing goes well so you can benefit sooner.

    Best wishes,
