I've been on Prostap for a good many years and the low mood and agitated feelings dont go away just wondering what others do to ease these. Cheers Richard

  • Hi Richard

my husband also feels “annoyed” as he put it and he could cry at the drop of a pin . Think these are the side affects of this drug . He goes walking & attends the gym at least three times a week and that certainly lifts his spirits

    best wishes

  • Hi Richard ( ),  I have been on Zoladex now for well over 8 years and really want a break.  I try at each appointment to see if I can get an HT holiday but the answer always comes back ‘it’s your choice but we wouldn’t recommend it’. So I go on.

    Best wishes, David

  • Hello Richard (

So sorry to read your post and the continuing side effects of Prostap. If it's keeping your PSA down then it's doing it's job.

I have been on 6 monthly injections Decaypeptyl now for over 3 years now. I had a couple of weeks with a "low mood" but snapped out of it and now I am so used to the HT it doesn't affect my life and it's keeping my PSA down.

Perhaps it might be an idea to ask your team if you can come off Prostap and swap to one of the other HT medications?

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Cheers all I know my psa is undetectable and thats good and I booking myself into the local gym/swimming pool I've managed for over 10 years just recently found it harder to cope but winter does not help at all but thanks for listening. Keep well everyone.

    Hi David

What's your PSA like. If its undetectable and stable I think you can quite safely have a HT holiday. Studies have shown that HT holidays don't affect clinical outcomes. Just restart when your PSA rises to a level agreed with your Oncologist.

  • Rob ( ) thanks for your reply.  I was stable for about 4 years and then it metastasised slowly.  Treatment (Enzalutamide then SABR) finished by March last year and PSA in November 0.03 (0.029 quarter before).  If my PSA stays around that level next week, I think my argument becomes stronger.  I do have faith in my oncologist and she has done well to date, so I won’t go against her recommendation.

  • I think its a balance between controlling the cancer and quality of life. If HT is really affecting QoL then its entirely reasonable to take a holiday and get back to feeling normal for a while. I've been off HT for around 6 months now after 2 years of Decapeptyl and feel much better for it. Keeping my fingers crossed things remain stable.

    Best of Luck Rob

  • Rob ( ) I totally agree.  Can I live as I am - yes.  Would I prefer to stop HT after over 8 years - yes.  Will I take a gamble against my oncologist - no.  Will I try to persuade her about an RT holiday - yes.  All depends on next bloods due early Feb and results of CT scan last week.  Take care.
