Decision made. I’m pT3a, N0 M0 (see my profile for details ). My extensive research points to a combo treatment of HT / RT / Brachy (NHS and NICE approved). MDT met again a couple of days ago and their recommendation (without my input) was the same. I had a consultation at Addenbrookes yesterday with a top prostatectomy surgeon and he agreed with me that my decision was the best one, as surgery would carry at least a 30% chance of recurrence. So I collected my prescription on way out! I took my first bicalutamide tablet taken this morning…..so the treatment is underway. Just over 62 days (NHS target) since GP referral so well done to them after a thorough diagnosis. I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders with regards to timelines (chasing the NHS, politely!), but I’m under no illusion that the next few months of treatment will present challenges. My wife and I are a strong team and we intend to take everything in our stride and, hopefully, this curative pathway will prevail. Here we go…..wish us luck!
Hi Dafna, that seems to have come round really quickly. I am sure Jacob will sail through the RT, but you know where to come if you want any help! My radiotherapy team were all brilliant and if you have concerns, make sure they know as they have seen it all before. Six sessions will soon be over. Stay positive. David
Best wishes, David
Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.
Hi David,
Thank you for that. You always put me at ease with the situation.
Bless you
Dafna
Alwayshope has pretty much said it all Dafna - Thursday will be here before you know it, and each one-sixth session takes you closer to calmer waters. I’m sure Jacob will be fine - especially as the two of you have such a positive mindset! AW
Mrs AW and I depart tomorrow for our daughter’s wedding on Saturday. I’m reflecting on a tumultuous 9 months since my cancer journey started and I feel blessed that we’re in a position to fully enjoy it. Even better, if I cry when I see my beautiful daughter before I take her to the altar, I can blame to tears on the hormone therapy! (Only joking, I will say it’s because I’m such a lucky and proud Dad). AW
Hey AW - You an Mrs AW have a fantastic weekend I hope all goes well for you and the family and new extended family.
It's no shame in crying - I have walked 2 of my "little girls" down the isle and was in tears almost before the walk started - and at that point Prostate Cancer was something that was exclusive to other people - little did I know!!!!
Enjoy it the pair of you - you are in a great position - and once again thanks for all your help around the Community - it's not gone unnoticed.
Kindest Regards - Brian.
