Hi folks
It's Steph here from the Community team, I'm just popping in with an update.
First of all, thank you for all the support you share with with each other. It's clear that the Prostate cancer forum hosts an amazing community of members who care and support each other brilliantly. It’s positive that lots of you are researching cancer and that you’re keen to share the information with others.
We are reviewing all of our Community Guidelines in line with the Online Safety Act, including what information and links we can allow members to share. Unfortunately we can no longer allow the sharing of "Prostate Cancer Research Institute (PCRI)" videos, links and other content from overseas organisations on the Online Community.
This is because cancer information shared from overseas might not always be relevant to those receiving treatment in the UK. Unfortunately we don't have the resources to check individual content sources to be able to make any exceptions.
We can allow links to other UK charities, to government websites and the NHS. Although diagnosis and treatment are often going to be part of the conversation, please remember that the Community is not designed to replace clinical support. We ask members to share their own experience and to refer others back to their nurse/doctor when clinical advice is needed and to further support from Macmillan/other charities.
There are lots of UK websites that we would recommend for information on prostate cancer, including:
A good way of checking if the information is from a trusted and reliable source is to look for the PIF TICK. PIF TICK is a quality mark specifically for health information in the UK. It is the only UK-wide quality mark for print and online health and care information. Organizations within the UK that produce health information can apply for the PIF TICK to demonstrate that their information meets high standards of quality, accuracy, and accessibility.
If there is specific Prostate cancer information that you’re not finding on UK sites, please do let us know and we will send your request to our content teams. Feedback from members could help us update our information and support pages.
Please do get in touch by email at community@macmillan.org.uk should you have any questions or want to share any feedback. We hope you will all continue to post and share support with the Community.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
