My mam has been diagnosed with pituitary cancer and a radiological (not biopsy) diagnosis of lung cancer. She's 85 and until three weeks ago very fit and active but then crashed physically and all of this was discovered via a subdural haematoma diagnosis in A and E.
Three weeks later, after innumerable MDT meetings and to-ing and fro-ing, today we were told that they're not going to treat at present, just try to get her (complex) symptoms under control and send her home. What's the outlook? I don't want to ask timeframes, just how it'll progress. They said if she eats and gets stronger they'll look again at radiotherapy. Is this likely?
I can't believe I'm not a sobbing mess on the floor - strange times.
Hi Jillian D and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your mam's diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hello Jillian
I'm sorry you didn’t get much in the way of replies. I don’t have anything to help with but hope your Mum had treatment and has come through her situation and is healing well.
I wondered if you could help me with a bit of advice if possible please?
my friend who is 60 has just been diagnosed with pituitary cancer as well as metastasis in many places, lung, kidney, adrenal etc. 6 weeks in hospital and only 1 MDT meeting which had to be asked for and all she’s on is anti sickness and steroids and I’m worried sick at how long anything is taking as they still haven’t decided on treatment for her.
can I ask if it’s ok, how did your mums treatment go and do you have any advice or tips you can give me for my friend?
Any help would be appreciated.
Grateful thanks, Marisa
