Hi everyone, my mum got a diagnosis in Jan that she’s got terminal pancreatic cancer, she’s on a fortnightly course of chemo, one is all day in hospital and then she gets sent home with it attached for another 2 days. She’s just had her second cycle and she’s struggling terribly with mouth ulcers, they’re all over her tongue, side of her mouth and upper mouth. She’s now struggling to eat and drink. We obviously need to get nutrients in her to keep her as healthy as she can.
Has anyone had similar problems with mouth ulcers? She’s using the mouthwash prescribed alongside salt and water, she’s also tried bonjela which she has said has no affect.
many thanks everyone
Hi and a warm welcome to the online community
Having those mouth ulcers must be incredibly unpleasant for your mum. Do you know if she's told her CNS that the prescribed mouthwash isn't having any affect? Her team wouldn't want her to be suffering and there may be other things that they can prescribe.
If she has spoken to her CNS and they haven't been able to help you could post your question in the ask a nurse section of the online community to see if one of the specialist nurses here have any suggestions. If you'd like to do that clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there.
I do hope that your mum can find something that works soon.
