Hi my husband wad diagnosed with pancreatic cancer stage 3, locally advanced in November 2019. At time of diagnosis he was extremely jaundice and his CA19-9 was 10,000. He had bloods done on 3rd january and his bilirubin levels are reducing but his CA19-9 is now in excess of 12,000. Does this mean the cancer is getting worse and spreading? Has anyone had such high Ca19-9 levels? He had a biopsy which did not show cancer cells so this will need to be retested as inconclusive and he is due to have another CT scan. I'm worried as chemo has been postponed until his jaundice levels have normalised. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Carli
I am not a medical expert but my understanding is that whilst CA19-9 levels are an indicator they are not particularly reliable on their own. Once the scan is done I think the medics will be able to give you a better idea of what’s going on. I can understand your concern.
