Hello everyone,

I have been looking through everyone's posts on here & have found some very reassuring and positive posts & experiences inspite of the negative.

Everything still feels very present, raw feels like so much has happened over these last few weeks. I'm still processing everything that has been happening over last month.

I had a biopsy bout 2 weeks ago, so painful, then week after this 3 litres of fluid drained, been feeling so awful, uncomfortable during throughout my time in hospital since, although felt better relieved after the fluid had been drained, just the discomfort soreness from the drain.

Saw consultant yesterday & she prescribed me dexamethasone, the first thing I've been prescribed as yet & I'm on a waiting list now for chemotherapy, starting to feel slightly  better & my appetite seems to be improving, although have had a bit of an upset stomach.

Mixed thoughts feelings about chemo, scared anxiety, although have heard different things regarding side effects and everyones experience is unique different althought similar side effects , still trying to process the fact im going to be losing my hair, hoping it wont be as bad as I hope it to be and the main thing is getting thr treatment.

Xxxxx

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear all that you're going through at the moment and it's natural to be scared about your upcoming chemotherapy.

I haven't had chemotherapy, so can't help with any experience there, but you're right in that everyone's experience is unique. Although I'm not a member of this group I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies so replying to you will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussions page where it'll be more easily seen.

While you're waiting for replies you could type 'chemotherapy' into the search bar in this group to read about other people's experiences. In case you haven't seen it, I've created a link to Macmillan's page on chemotherapy for ovarian cancer (link). Clicking on the link will take you straight there.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    Wishing you all the best

  • Hi, I am sorry that you are in this situation,& I think most people worry about having chemo, & I believe it is fear of the unknown. I know when I had my op which is almost 5 years ago now, I felt the same. However once I had the plan for the chemo, I felt better about things. Things have improved over the years & there are anti-sickness drugs given etc. I won't say it is a walk in the park, but it is doable. If you get any problems then you can always contact your team.  Everyone is different of course, but  I found that there was a pattern that  seemed to follow after each cycle.  I felt really tired on days 4,5, & 6 & then felt somewhat better.

Losing  one's hair is not easy, but once you finish your chemo the hair generally grows fairly quickly. There are very good wigs these days, plus numerous scarves etc.

I did have a wig myself & wore it to my grandson's Graduation, but by the time our son got married which was the same year I was able to go without my wig as my hair had grown sufficiently.

Take care, & I wish you luck with your chemo. Georgette x
