Recent diagnosis after hysterectomy - starting chemo soon.

Hi everyone

I found out in November that I had a tumour on my left ovary and had a full hysterectomy 4.5 weeks ago. I found out a week ago that it was stage 1C ovarian cancer (endometrial), plus I had a bonus unrelated stage 1A tumour in my womb.

I am starting Carboplatin in two weeks - whilst still recovering from surgery.

I'm feeling all the emotions - incredibly lucky that this was caught early, terrified about chemo, worried about money and work.

I'm just hoping to connect with others who have been through similar (or are going through this at the moment) and share.

Thanks :-)

  • Hello. I had a stage 1a cancer in my left ovary. It was removed - along with most of my insides on 5 November.  I had a bad  time following surgery with infections, a DVT and PE. To cut a long story short I started chemo on carboplatin only 3 weeks ago. I'm about to have my second infusion on Weds. So far, its been better than I imagined. Bit of nausea in the first week. I was sick once - but maybe because I had eaten so much chocolate then nothing really in terms of side effects. I'm hoping round 2 goes just as well.

    Best of luck x

  • Thanks for sharing and sorry to hear you had so many set backs - that sounds awful.

I'm glad the chemo hasn't been too bad for you so far. Do you mind me asking if you are working whilst having it? I'm still off recovering from surgery at the moment but not sure if I will be OK to work during chemo or not.

    Take care! x

  • Hey. I'm 64 and have retired so not working. I think i could have worked with the side effects so far though. I'm feeling pretty normal. No real fatigue , the nausea has been reasonable. X

  • I could let you know how I feel following round 2 if thst helps. Incidentally, I wouldn't have been able to work during surgery recovery x
