hello I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer three weeks ago, I have had various test and I am being transferred to the Marsden Fulham on Friday to meet my team and prepare for chemotherapy. Over the past two weeks have been suffering nausea, which has been getting worse each day and I haven’t started the chemotherapy yet, so worried how I will cope. Did anyone else experience sickness before starting chemotherapy, and were you ok to have chemo.
Hi aqubee, I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis and that you will be starting chemotherapy.
I don’t think that you will need to worry about nausea associated with the chemotherapy treatment. You should be given steroid tablets to take just before each chemotherapy session and for a few days after. These help to counteract some of the side effects of chemotherapy and give you an appetite. You should also be given anti-sickness tablets to take after the chemotherapy. They told me that I could take them for 3 to 5 days when I needed them, but I just took them as a precaution anyway.
I found that the symptoms I had around diagnosis were relieved by just one cycle of chemotherapy. The chemotherapy wasn’t as bad as I had feared and the chemo nurses knew how to deal with possible side effects, such as nausea, and other reactions.
I hope this helps.
