Good afternoon everyone. Never expected to find myself here on a Saturday afternoon, but would be hugely grateful for any thoughts.
Last September I started having awful pains in my hip, groin and calf which were particularly bad at night. The gp said sciatica and gave me a week’s sleeping tablets. No good. Another gp said sciatica too and gave me codeine and naproxen. Still no good. I then went to the practice physio who said that my pelvis was out of alignment and put it back in. Still in pain. He then thought it could have been a hip sprain or bursitis. I just decided to grit my teeth and get on with it.
Last Friday my calf became enlarged and was 4cm bigger than the other one. Saw a nurse practitioner who did blood tests and sent me for an ultrasound. No clot, which was excellent. She rang me yesterday to say that my blood tests have shown high inflammation markers, anaemia and a high ca-125 level? I asked if this could point to the worst case scenario and she said that she was worried. Now referred for urgent gynae appt but am so shell shocked. I don’t have any swelling or bloating. I do pee a lot but I had a child aged 42 and have been peeing a lot since I had him... Do have pain down groin and occasionally in the tummy. I am frightened and just wanted to share. Is leg pain a common symptom? Trying not too google too much....
Hello CaseyJ,
goodness you are having a difficult time. You must be worried sick. Unfortunately I cannot answer questions regarding your swelling as it isn't something that I have experienced. But I would like to wish you some consoling words and hope that someone on here has a bit of insight they could share with you to put your mind at ease.
It all sounds really scary and you must be understandably worried but until you get some proper scans and your medical team examine it in detail I would try to avoid Dr Google. It can just end up scaring yourself.
I do wish you all the best with your appointment and will be keeping my fingers crossed it isn't the worst case scenario
Take care

Hi Fishy,
thankyou very much for your kind reply. I think the hardest part for me is going from thinking I probably have arthritis or suchlike in my hip to this situation..... Feel a little shell shocked.
Hopefully I’ll get an appointment quickly, I think that the not knowing is the worst. I am the type of person who works much better with a plan.
Fingers crossed I hear soon.

Hi Casey
Me too. Once you know what your dealing with you can get your level head on and go Right...let's do this! But all the time it's floating round in your head it could be anything. You sound like you think like me haha.
Let me know what they say. I'll be sending virtual good luck!
Fishy xx
Hi Fishy
I will certainly let you know. I just read about you and your son and am sending you a huge virtual hug. What a bugger, and that’s putting it very mildly. My wee boy will be 7 in April and my world revolves around him. Am now going to stop feeling sorry for myself until I know for sure.
Casey xx
Absolutely... Let's do this thangggg lol.
Aw your boy is 7! I remember mine that age. Now he's my size! How did that happen?
He is still that little boy even though he's grown.
Right, we shall be big and brave while we go through this!!! I've done it before and you can do it too.
Wait for the results Casey, it just maybe ok!
Big hugs
Sheila xx
Hi Casey,
im also struggling with leg/groin pain and was found to have a 14cm mass/cyst which I’m currently under investigation for.
ive had a CT last week and have an appointment Tuesday and like you I just want to know what I’m dealing with. I’ve already had hysterectomy/gall bladder removal/prolapse surgery so for this to now happen has thrown me.
hopefully we will both get good news although it seems they can’t really be certain until after surgery for me so I may have a long wait ahead.
will keep everything crossed for you.
Em
Hi Sheila.
Let’s do this thangggg!!! Love it!!! I started singing ‘here come the girls’ in response... albeit badly.
Pain got so bad in my leg today that I ended up ringing nhs24. 3 hour wait. Spoke then to a lovely nurse who thinks I should get seen out of hours at the nearest hospital. 21 miles away. She said that someone would phone me within 4 hours. Am now on standby! Parents on babysitting standby..... am not the best at waiting either.....
Hope you have had a better day.
Karen xx
Oh that's going to make for a long day! I hope they don't make you wait too long Karen.
Keeping it all crossed for you and singing with you

Oh Sheila,
I had an urgent CT scan this morning at 11 and was told at dinner time that I have womb cancer. A large tumour pressing on the nerves on my back is causing the leg pain. Heartbroken.
Not sure I took it all in correctly but think biopsy and mri are next followed by surgery and chemotherapy. I will need to travel 120 miles for this. Gutted for my little man but will need to have my game face on when I get up tomo morning!!!
karen xxxx
Hi Em,
good grief, you’ve really been through the ringer too!! That’s me diagnosed with womb cancer and I don’t think i’ve blinked yet. I hope you get far better news tomo than I did today.
Will be thinking of you, let us know how you get on.
Best of luck,
Karen.
