Hello
I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2017. I had a hysterectomy and went through chemo. It came back in a lymph gland this March, I was operated on and went through Chemo again. I was started on Niraparib 200g it caused high blood pressure and fast heart beat along with anxiety. It was reduced to 100g. I was on it, off it, one it, whilst they decided what to do with me, and eventually I was put on beater blockers Bisoprolol 5mg for two weeks before I started the Niraparib again. This has since been upped to 6.5mg. I have been on it for 4 weeks now and fingers crossed, my BP and pulse are under control. Has anyone else experienced these side effects If so how were they treated?
I am also experiencing a cold feeling in the back of my throat. The only way I can discribe it is like I am breathing in cold air down my respiratory tract. I have mentioned this, but my nurse specialist isn't sure what it is and doesn't seem too concerned. I know its the Niraparib causing it as when I was off the tablet the effect gradually wore off. When I started taking it again the feeling came back. I am not aware of it all the time. Trish
Hello thank you for your post it was very helpful and I too was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in December 2017 had a head full hysterectomy in March including a stoma incision following cancer in the bowel. Like you my cancer returned and I am on another treatment plan of six chemotherapy is then followed by another drug.
I'm wondering how you are generally and the drug you mention is in a drug that has been referred suggested to me so your input would be very helpful
many thanks Mary
Hello
i had a bit of a doggie start on the niraparib , it just so happened that I got a middle ear and chest infection at the same time , not long after end of chemo, so wasn’t sure if it was the pills or the infection that gave me ear ache and breathing problems, anxiety . That’s why they took me off it for me to settle down . I have now Been on it for four straight weeks along side the beta blocker for high blood pressure and anxiety . I am feeling normal now apart from this strange sensation in my respiratory tract, feels like I’m breathing ice cold are. I am back at work too. Sometimes I’m tired but on the whole about the same as before the 2nd lot of chemo . Just been for a scan today . My blood checks are ok but been advised to drink more water as kidney function a bit high. Not sure what that means.
