Following on from three sessions of chemo,a hysterectomy and three more sessions of chemo, (I’ve had one so far), I will be starting Avastin, probably in February, it will be every three weeks for a year, I find the prospect quite daunting,I wonder if anyone has any experiences, of being on it for so long, that they can share. Thanks
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I don't have any experience with this drug but I noticed that you hadn't had any replies yet.
While you're waiting for responses, if you type 'avastin' into the search bar in this group you'll see that there are a few previous posts which mention it. You could read these and reply to anyone who you think might be able to help you further.
Wishing you all the best

Hello Jifftiff, I've just started Avastin which has been started while I'm still recieving chemo treatment. So at the moment it's hard to know whether my symptoms are the chemo or the Avastin. But so far so good. Fingers crossed.
It is a bit daunting as it's a long treatment. I've got 18 months of it. But I've heard good things about it so feeling positive at the moment.
Hello Fishtrombone, I’m the same as you had avastin with chemo, apart from treatments before and after hysterectomy, as you say it’s difficult to know what side effects are caused by what, I expect we’ll know soon enough!
We'll swap notes and see how this goes. Good luck Jifftiff, we'll beat this thing yet!
Hi Jifftiff.
I’m in almost the exact same situation as you. 3 chemo, then surgery, now 3 more chemo. Just had the 2nd of the 3.
Im due to start Avastin with my next chemo and then ongoing at 3 week intervals.
I obviously don’t have any experience of it to share yet but I also find the prospect a little daunting so just wanted to let you know you’re not on your own!
Perhaps we can compare notes sometimes as we progress?
Good luck
Hi guys, just to let you know, I did 10 from 18 sessions of Avastin on the ICON 7 trial, back in 2009. I had to stop due to side effects, but I'm 5 years clear, after 2 relapses ( both treated with surgery) mixed type cancer, including clear cell at diagnosis,( stage 3a) both relapses showed clear cell, but I'm still here. Take what you can, and enjoy what's left!
This is great to hear . It's good to see that its worth going through all the symptoms for a positive outcome. And its really good to see someone get the better of clear cell. I've been fighting that one for a year. I'm on a relapse but haven't been offered surgery but will see how the Avastin goes.
I did have anaphylaxis on my last carboplatin treatment which was a bit disheartening. But keeping with the process and hopefully will see some good results soon. At least the tumour marker is coming down.
Thanks for your positive news @ladygooner1
Hi please can you say what side effects avastin was causing you? . I am currently having Avastin every three weeks and not feeling good but i don't know if it is late chemo effects or the avastin.
Hi Eiram, I had neuro probs, I lost my balance a lot, and wasn't able to drive as i wasn't able to judge perception. I also had lots of nosebleeds. Although it wasn't a known side effect( the neuro issues) i noticed that everything got worse after my dose and they tailed off at the end of my 3 weeks. I stopped after the docs said it could be, but they also said that that at that time there was no good research to say it was more effective after 6 doses. I dont know if that's changed since then. Lots of luck. X
Sue
