My wife has been diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer.
This was diagnosed in September and she has just had her 1st chemotherapy session last week.
The cancer has spread to the bowel, lymph nodes, omentum and the stomach lining ( Peritonium??) it is in the small intestine which really is not brilliant news.
She currently has a blood clot on the lung so surgery was not an option for us.
Her stomach has swollen and been drained twice, almost 6 litres of fluid each time.
Hopefully after 3 sessions of chemotherapy we will be heading to hospital for an operation. Hysterectomy, bowel and the omentum  to be removed then back for 3 more chemotherapy sessions.
I must say the future at present looks bleak but the support and professionalism of everyone concerned is a blessing.
If anyone can offer advice in anyway possible that would be fabulous
  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm really sorry to hear that your wife has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer which has spread. I can understand that things might look bleak at the moment but I'm sure her team will be doing everything they can.

I'm afraid I can't offer any advice, as I had a different type of cancer, but I noticed that no one had responded to your post yet. By replying to you it will bump your post back to the top of the page where it'll be more easily seen. I'll also tag this group's Community Champion into my reply to you as she may be able to offer you the advice you're after.

Sending a supportive ((hug)) to you both

Hi Roger, I have been living with Stage 3 ovarian cancer for over 13 years. I've had surgery twice, and chemo three times, and am currently on a maintenance drug. It's difficult to compare experiences as ovarian cancer expresses itself in so many different ways. My advice is to take each step at a time - focus on getting through the treatment in stages - rather than to think ahead. Never be afraid to ask questions and to make sure you understand why the doctors are recommending particular lines of action. So right now, the focus should be on dealing with the chemo. When surgery becomes an option, focus on that then. And so on. There are other online support groups which you might look at as well as this one. HealthUnlocked's My Ovacome is a particularly good one. All the best. Bella
