Anyone with melanoma in their 30s/40s?
I would love to meet people a bit closer to my age that understand what it feels like to get this diagnosis, go through the surgeries, scans, biopsies, check-ups etc.
What it's like to date, to find work, to travel etc, all while dealing with melanoma.
I have met a lot of people with melanoma in their 50s-80s, but it can feel a bit isolating as we are not at all at the same stage of life / facing the same concerns / feeling the same way / from the same generation.
About me: I love travel, art, culture, new adventures, writing and I am about to start a PhD in independent filmmaking.
Let me know if you would like to grab a virtual coffee.
(and much love to everyone who is facing this diagnosis <3)
Hehe you are as young as you feel! Hope you are doing well xx
Hi I was 39 when I was diagnosed now 41 and clear at moment. I'm stage 3a and on surveillance scans and skin checks. I've managed to stay working but I am considering to see if I can cut hours down, as I also had thyroid cancer last year which was found on routine pet scan when I was having treatment. The surgery may have permanently damaged parathyroid glands which are to do with calcium levels, get more achy and tired sometimes. Have you had any surgery yet?
I was 35 when I first had melanoma and i had a 4 year old child. It was back in 1997 and there was no info out there at all. I don't even know what stage it was.
I had 25 years of living my life cancer free before getting it again in a totally different place. These years were well spent. We travelled, had a lot of fun, worked and just got on with life.
I'm a lot older now (in my 60's) and I'm still determined to enjoy life whatever it throws at me.
Hi Miss mole thanks for your message, I had WLE and SLNB last year, I've been having scans and things for some unexplained pain in my hips and ovaries. Would I be able to send you a private message ? Not sure if this platform allows that!
That's lovely I'm glad you spent that time enjoying yourself x
Nice to hear from you Soph, where are you based?
Hope you have some good distractions while waiting on results? <3
Aww my cousin and his wife live near MK, they run a charity called Ailsa's Aim. That's lovely to have your girls. I am okay, just waiting on another biopsy at the moment, a bit isolated so maybe going to stay with some friends. It's hard living alone sometimes!
