Hi all
I have just found and joined the group and looking for help and guidance.
My Partner has been told he has Stage 3 melanoma, Breslow thickness 9.4mm with the cancer spread to his lymph node in the groin area. We were told at his appointment he will have more of the area where his mole was (on his shin) removed, skin graft and lymph node removal and then immunotherapy. We are still waiting on a scan to show if it has spread anywhere else other than the groin lymph node. We were surprised to be given so much of a "plan" at the appointment but grateful for an idea of what the next while will look like. We have not had any meeting with a cancer specialist as yet.... just waiting for the scan appointment.
My question is, have you any advice on how to help my Partner with this news? And what can i do to prepare for what is ahead? What will life look like after surgery?
any help and advice would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks
Hi PartnerInJourney and a very warm welcome to our corner of the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I was diagnosed with melanoma 10 years ago now but don't have experience of Stage 3 melanoma and it's associated treatment. However, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet so responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
There are lots of people her with Stage 3 melanoma so hopefully some of those will pop on soon to tell you about their experiences.
You might also like to join the carers only group as you'll then connect with others who are supporting a loved one living with cancer. If this is something that you'd like to do, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your partner's diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
