Hi everyone I had surgery last week. Can’t really sleep as can feel skin moving around in dressing. Feeling so low and tired

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble sleeping and feeling low after having your wide local excision (WLE) for melanoma last week. I had a WLE, along with a SLNB (sentinel lymph node biopsy) just about 4 years ago and can remember feeling tired for a while afterwards.

It's perfectly normal to be feeling as you do. Don't forget you've been through an excision biopsy, followed by the worry of waiting for your results, the stress of being told you have melanoma, the WLE and now the wait for results again. That's an awful lot for both your mind and body to go through so don't be too hard on yourself.

However, if this low mood continues or gets worse then have a word with either your GP or SCNS (skin cancer nurse specialist) as they should be able to find ways to help you cope.

When you have a minute, it would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Do come back and let us all know when you get your WLE results

  • Hi

How are you? I hoping that now it's nearly a couple of weeks since you posted that your surgery site is feeling more comfortable and you're able to sleep easier.
